The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

The Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) of the University of Rochester is a unique national resource for research in science and technology focusing on using lasers to initiate high energy density physics. LLE is currently seeking to hire a Sr. Laboratory Engineer to serve as the OMEGA EP System Analyst and join the Facility Operations Management group in overseeing the operation of the Omega EP laser facility. Candidate will be expected to serve as a Shot Director and will also be responsible for analyzing experimental configurations for feasibility and system safety, monitoring facility performance, and optimizing facility utilization. Work closely with IT personnel to define and implement business rules and shot management systems. Serve as project team member for new system capabilities or sustainment project efforts. As Shot Director, oversee both the engineers and technicians standing watch as well as the execution of complex setups for state-of-the-art experiments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Complete training as a Shot Director within 1 year, thereafter,serveas Shot Director, the senior crew memberresponsible foroverseeingthe safe and efficient operation of the facilityand interfacing with scientists performing experiments on thesystem.
  • Analyze proposed experimental configurationsfor system safety,feasibility,and efficiency.
  • Monitor/analyze existingand develop newperformancemetricsfocused on maximizingfacility availability and effectiveness.
  • Managesmallfacility enhancement projects.
  • Prepare reports and presentations communicating current system performance andcapability.
  • Author and review procedures for shot and maintenanceoperations.
  • Audit and develop business rules and their integration into anunderdevelopment shot request and configuration system.
  • Workcloselywithprogrammers and otherIT staff toimplement business logic anddevelop toolsorweb-basedutilitiesnecessary forefficientoperations.
  • Interface withprincipalinvestigators awarded shot time and other members of the scientific communityin support of experimental campaigns.


MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • B.S. Degree in Physical Science, Engineering, Information Technology, ComputerScienceand 5 years of applicable experienceor equivalentcombination ofskillsandwork experience required. M.S. Preferred


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to obtain aSecurityClearance (which requiresa backgroundcheck)required
  • Ability to qualify as a Radiation Worker under LLE's instructionrequired
  • Proficient with MSOffice Suiterequired
  • Proficient with MATLABpreferred
  • Experience in complex plant shift operations, for example power plant or microprocessorfabfacilitypreferred
