General Job Description:
Upper Valley Career Center is seeking a dedicated paraprofessional to support high school students in the Cosmetology program. This role involves working alongside the program instructors to assist students with learning needs, facilitate instructional activities, and promote student engagement in a hands-on, career-focused environment.
Program Description:
The Cosmetology program is designed to help students gain the knowledge and skills needed to become a licensed cosmetologist. Students complete a comprehensive 1500-hour curriculum, which includes training in hair, nail, and skin care services. Training is extended in a student learning salon where they provide services to guests.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Maintain a safe learning environment for all students and ensure that school policies and guidelines are followed.
  • Assist the instructors with student supervision and educational/operational functions
  • Assist in the areas of record keeping, instructional preparation, lab organization, and upkeep.
  • Provide support to students in the program, including assistance with activities, behavior management, and task direction.
  • Participate in professional development activities related to the job description.
  • Provide sub coverage for other career technical programs when needed.
  • Participate in Advisory Committee functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Provide evidence of possessing a high school diploma OR General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and a valid Driver's License.
  • Must have a Cosmetology Instructor's license.
  • Meets the requirements to obtain a valid state department of education license appropriate for this position.
  • Possesses a minimum of 5 years of work experience in the Cosmetology industry.
  • Displays a positive attitude and the willingness to work with high school students.
  • Has strong communication skills and can maintain an atmosphere of trust, fairness, and respect.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Consistently able to maintain a professional attitude, strict confidentiality, and the ability to interact with peers and supervisors in a manner conforming to the school philosophy.
  • Embodies high ethical standards.
  • Meets all mandated health screening requirements.
  • Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment. Able to successfully pass a BCI/FBI background check.
  • Maintains compliance with drug-free workplace rules, Board policies, and other applicable procedures/guidelines.

Salary:
Appropriate placement on the Paraprofessional Salary Schedule to be determined by education and experience. Salary will range from $31,173.00 ( Class I.4, Step 0) to $36,711.00 (Class I.4, Step 5). Base contract is 194 Days. Minimum workday is 7 hours per day exclusive of a lunch break . One-year contract with opportunity for renewal.
Other Benefits:
School Employees Retirement System, Worker's Compensation, paid sick/personal leave, partial tuition reimbursement, and tax-sheltered retirement contributions. Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance offered. Some benefits are a shared cost between the employee and the Board of Education.

Job performance is evaluated according to policy provisions and contractual agreements adopted by the Upper Valley Career Center.
