Upfitter TechnicianRole Overview

The Level 3 Upfitter Technician is responsible for transforming new vehicles into fully equipped police and emergency response units while supporting production efficiency, quality standards, and team success in a fast-paced environment. This role requires advanced automotive electrical and mechanical expertise, strong troubleshooting abilities, and experience completing full emergency vehicle builds across multiple vehicle platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support a team of upfitter technicians to meet production and quality goals
  • Conduct daily team meetings to assign tasks and review priorities
  • Perform advanced installations of emergency vehicle equipment, including:
    • Wiring harnesses and controllers
    • Light bars and power supplies
    • Consoles and partitions
    • Camera and radar systems
    • Radio and communications equipment
    • Push bumpers and related components
  • Complete full interior and exterior vehicle upfit installations and modifications
  • Perform complete vehicle and console wiring
  • Install front and rear radar systems and integrated camera systems
  • Build and configure full emergency response units, including:
    • K9 units
    • Administrative units
    • Patrol units
  • Work across multiple vehicle platforms including vans, Durangos, Tahoes, Explorers, and trucks
  • Integrate customer-supplied equipment and specialty components
  • Disassemble and reassemble vehicles according to specifications
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and program systems as needed
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and support quality control efforts
  • Maintain accurate production and quality documentation
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and build quality
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid Texas driver's license required
  • 5+ years of automotive electrical systems experience preferred
  • 5+ years of police or emergency vehicle upfitting experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics and system integration
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Strong attention to detail and leadership mindset
  • Positive attitude with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to pass an extensive background check
Preferred Certifications
  • ASE Automotive Technician certification or valid mechanic's license
  • EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) certification
