Job description

This position is responsible for provision of Advanced Practice Provider services to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting. The position will work as part of a care team at the UNLV Health Internal Medicine clinic. Our patient care model includes faculty, residents, and students.

Services provided by the APP can include diagnosing patients, ordering laboratory tests, prescribing medication and managing health conditions through evaluation and education. The APP may provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and assessment services to patients in the hospital and office settings. Responsible for managing acute and chronic conditions. Provides education, disease prevention, and pre-operative and post-operative instruction. Ability to see patients independently, as well as in collaboration with physician. This position requires the ability to work closely with physicians and other clinicians in a team-based approach to patient care.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 2 years experience with Rheumatology required
  • Nevada Pharmacy and DEA License required
  • Basi Life Support (BLS) Certification required
  • CPR Certification required
  • Valid Drivers License
  • APRN/NP Requirements
    • License in the State of Nevada as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner (or ability to be licensed prior to the start date)
    • Masters Degree in Nursing Required
    • Current and Unrestricted NV Nurse Practitioner License Required
    • Minimum of 5 years of professional nursing experience in a clinic setting, plus 2 years of nurse practitioner experience
    • Minimum 3 years of Supervisory Experience
  • Physician Assistant Requirements
    • License in the State of Nevada as a Physician Assistant (or ability to be licensed prior to the start date)
    • Masters Degree in Physician Assistant Studies required
    • Current and Unrestricted Physician Assistant License issued by the State of Nevada Medical Board Required
    • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA) certification required

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works in conjunction with Physicians, administrative management, nursing and other interprofessional team members to facilitate patient care and management throughout the health care system
  • Exercises independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of medical processes and procedures commensurate with training and experience
  • Performs and documents comprehensive health histories and physical assessments, to include initiation of CPR or other appropriate emergency therapy as needed
  • Formulates diagnoses, identifies problems and health risk profiles, documents and clearly communicates with other members of the health care team
  • Performs, orders, and interprets diagnostic studies, such as x-rays and laboratory tests, in consultation with peers and colleagues
  • Assumes a proactive role in patient/family education and patient/family satisfaction in the practice setting
  • Assumes personal accountability to enhance the patient experience by using high quality, patient satisfaction-directed interactions/tools/activities in the execution of duties
  • Always interacts with patients and families in a compassionate and respectful manner, at all times
  • Participates in training of staff, students, and residents; and as requested by Department Chair, Division Chief, supervisors, mentors, and provides education on areas of expertise
