The Peer Specialist plays a vital role in supporting individuals who are navigating mental health or substance use recovery by leveraging their own lived experiences to foster hope and empowerment. This position is centered on building trusting, empathetic relationships that encourage personal growth and resilience. The Peer Specialist collaborates closely with clinical teams to provide guidance, advocacy, and resource connection tailored to each individual's unique journey. Through active listening and shared understanding, the Peer Specialist helps clients develop coping strategies and achieve their recovery goals. Ultimately, this role contributes to creating a supportive community environment that promotes wellness and reduces stigma associated with behavioral health challenges.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Personal lived experience with mental health or substance use recovery.
- Completion of a recognized Peer Specialist training program or certification.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in behavioral health or social service settings.
- Additional certifications related to mental health, substance use, or trauma-informed care.
- Familiarity with local community resources and support networks.
- Basic knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and documentation systems.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one peer support and mentorship to individuals experiencing mental health or substance use challenges.
- Facilitate group sessions and workshops that promote recovery, self-advocacy, and life skills development.
- Assist clients in navigating healthcare systems, social services, and community resources to meet their needs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized recovery plans.
- Document interactions and progress notes accurately while maintaining client confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Advocate for clients’ rights and needs within various service settings and community environments.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance peer support skills and knowledge.
