Job Summary
The Unit Clerk Monitor Technician is responsible for continuous cardiac monitoring and clerical support on the unit. This role includes interpreting heart rhythms (EKGs), reporting abnormal findings, and assisting nursing staff with communication and coordination of patient care. The position requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to function effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Monitor Technician Duties: Identify normal and abnormal EKG rhythms; Notify nursing staff of rhythm changes; Respond to patient needs and communicate appropriately; Remain calm and effective during emergency and STAT situations. Clerical/Unit Support Duties: Post EKG strips routinely; Complete assigned clerical work; Assist with unit communication and workflow; Adapt to workload changes; Participate in quality initiatives; Ensure completion of daily assignments; Support staff during emergency situations; Demonstrate teamwork and willingness to assist as needed. Knowledge & Compliance: Maintain knowledge of EKG rhythms; Understand role in cardiac arrest response; Demonstrate knowledge of telemetry and monitoring systems; Follow hospital and nursing policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; Ability to read, write, and understand written and verbal communication; Basic computer skills.
Working Conditions
Rotating shifts including weekends and holidays; Must be flexible to work additional hours based on department needs; Requires reliable attendance and the ability to adapt to changing schedules.
