Preop Recovery Room A (PACU) Registered Nurse

Join our team as a day shift, full-time Preop Recovery Room A (PACU) Registered Nurse in Topeka, Kansas.

The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus, a part of a rich legacy of compassionate care since 1909, now offers 378 licensed beds, a history of innovation, and strong community support.

Responsibilities

  • Admit the patient to the preoperative unit, assist with the physical preparation of the patient for surgery, check chart for completeness, perform preoperative preps as ordered by physician and explain surgical routine to the patient.
  • Provide professional nursing care to the patient in the immediate postoperative period (PACU).
  • Assess patient's physical and psychological needs.
  • Evaluate and implement appropriate measures to assure a safe recovery from anesthesia.
  • Prepare patient for discharge and discharge patient safely from Center.
  • The preoperative, PACU, and discharge nurse serves as a patient advocate in the provision of care and is responsible for ensuring patient safety during preop, intra-operatively, and post-op during recovery from anesthesia.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Current Nursing License in the State of Kansas
  • BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care
  • Current ACLS certification
  • PALS certifications, as required for primary PACU RN (PRN RNs excluded)

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Two years of experience
