To model and coordinate Mechanical and Plumbing BIM models under the direction of the Lead Detailer and Regional Manager of Virtual Construction. The Virtual Construction Detailer will also utilize U.S. Engineering's Construction company standards, adhering to current building codes, meet project requirements and coordinate with all trades on a given project.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Lead Detailers and Virtual Construction Project Manager.
  • Within the scope of the project, model to build and coordinate 3D, intelligent models of that project and then create the deliverable documents required within the scope of the project(s).
  • Must use knowledge of Revit software and building trades and codes to model, coordinate and produce shop and fabrication deliverables.
  • Coordinate models with all in-house trades under direction of Lead Detailer, as well as out-of-house project team.
  • Perform routine to complex assignments requiring a thorough knowledge of computer aided drafting system standards, practices and techniques.
  • Analyze submittals, sketches, notes and other input material to determine best approach to complete drawings.
  • Apply judgement and make decisions that protect US Engineering with respect to drawings and input interpretation.
  • With input from supervisor, lead detailer and other team members, review work performed by the detailing team to determine accuracy (e.g., field superintendents and shop foremen).
  • Continue to develop increased proficiency in system operation with a resulting increase in productivity and learn how to use all software options.

Job Scope: The Virtual Construction Detailer will be responsible for producing accurate working models to facilitate the fabrication and installation of the mechanical and plumbing systems.

RequirementsEducation: 

  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Associate Degree in Engineering or Drafting Technology helpful.
  • Completion of a trade-related apprenticeship program will be required in certain locations, based on union contractual agreements.
     
Experience:
  • Proficiency with Revit software.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD software preferred.
  • Proficiency with Navisworks Manage software.
  • Should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Proficiency with Procore software preferred.
  • Experience with layout of HVAC/piping/plumbing.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in the field as a Pipe Fitter, Plumber or Sheet Metal worker is preferred.
  • Understanding of layout of HVAC/piping/plumbing.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems (HVAC, Pipefitting, Plumbing) preferred.
 
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Thorough understanding of HVAC, Piping, and/or Plumbing systems.
  • Understanding of mechanical construction principles and processes.
  • Understanding of building codes.
  • Ability to define fabrication breaks for the shop.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer aided drafting software:
    • Revit
    • Navisworks Manage
    • Basic AutoCAD Skills
    • Bluebeam Revu helpful but not required
    • Procore
    • Autodesk Fabrication
  • Analytical skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing technology/computer systems, software, etc.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Mathematical skills.
  • Ability to read and understand structural and architectural drawings.

Physical and/or travel demands:  
  • These duties require prolonged sitting and use of computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor. 
  • Visual acuity is required to discern drawings, and manual dexterity for operating computer equipment.
  • Travel to remote jobsite for meetings, troubleshooting, and/or constructability review is required. 
  • May be required to be on-site for several months during the detailing/coordination phase of a project.

Benefits and Compensation:

  • The range for this position has been established at $28.27- $38.82 per hour and is US Engineering’s good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of the posting. The compensation offered to the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
