Job description

Part-Time Construction Engineer/Administrator

Horner amp; Shifrin is seeking a part-time Construction Engineer or Construction Administrator for our Construction Services business unit. This position requires 3+ years of experience.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct inspection of any bridge, roadway, storm sewer, waste water treatment plant or public works construction crews to confirm compliance with contract plans, specifications, and the client’s policies/procedures
  • Inform the Construction Manager or Supervisor of any observed problems or issues
  • Communicate with the Construction Management team to address any of the public’s, client’s, or contractor’s questions
  • Perform inspection of earthwork, traffic control, erosion control, utilities, storm sewer, water treatment plant, concrete structures, paving, and pavement markings
  • Measure and record construction quantities for contractor’s payment using appropriate forms and software as required by the client. Ensure that accurate quantities are tracked for completed work
  • Complete electronic copy of daily field reports, including pay quantities, material requirements, and contractor staffing
  • Supply photo documentation as needed to support recorded observations
  • Assist with the preparation of pay estimates, extra work orders, or claims
  • Assist field staff in developing strategic approaches and concepts.
  • Provide a record of time, equipment, and material needed for any work changes that may result in a change order
  • Assist with the observations of traffic control daily
  • Perform services in the safest manner with continuous thought of the safety of all co-workers and the public
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Critical thinking and analysis
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must complete a background check
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Construction Engineer: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or
Construction Administrator: High School Diploma or GED – Associate’s or two-year degree in construction management or background working on municipal or state DOT construction projects.
SALARY RANGE:

Compensation for the successful candidate will consider the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, and geographic location.
