Computer Science Grad information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Computer Science Graduate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Computer Science Graduate, you need a solid understanding of programming languages, algorithms, data structures, and fundamental computer science concepts, typically gained through a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with development environments, version control systems like Git, and frameworks relevant to your specialization is often expected. Problem-solving, teamwork, and strong communication skills help you collaborate efficiently and adapt to evolving project requirements. These skills and qualities are crucial for building robust software solutions and succeeding in dynamic technology-driven workplaces.

What are some common entry-level positions for recent computer science graduates, and how do they typically collaborate within a team?

Recent computer science graduates often start in roles such as software engineer, QA analyst, IT support specialist, or junior web developer. In these positions, you'll usually work as part of a project team alongside more experienced engineers, designers, and sometimes product managers. Collaboration is key—you'll participate in code reviews, daily stand-up meetings, and pair programming sessions to learn best practices and contribute to shared goals. This team-oriented environment not only helps build technical skills but also offers mentorship opportunities and exposure to different aspects of software development.

What are Computer Science grads?

Computer Science grads are individuals who have completed a degree program in computer science, typically at the undergraduate or graduate level. They possess knowledge and skills in areas such as programming, algorithms, data structures, software engineering, and computer systems. These graduates are equipped to pursue careers in various tech fields including software development, data analysis, cybersecurity, and more. Their education often includes both theoretical foundations and practical experience with modern technologies.

We work directly within utility OT environments to implement grid management platforms, enable advanced operational applications, and integrate systems that support reliable, secure, and real-time grid operations.
We are seeking an Analyst to support the delivery of grid system and OT integration engagements for electric utility clients. This early-career role is designed for individuals who are building technical depth in grid operations, utility systems, and enterprise/OT implementations. The Analyst will work closely with Consultants and Architects, performing analysis, system configuration support, testing, and documentation activities across grid modernization programs.
What You'll Do
  • Support technical consulting and implementation activities related to grid and OT systems, including:
  • Assist with the configuration, testing, and deployment support of grid management systems such as SCADA, OMS, DMS, ADMS, and DERMS
  • Support advanced distribution applications including power flow, state estimation, FLISR, VVO, and distributed energy resource integration
  • Perform data validation, quality checks, and basic analysis of system outputs to support operational accuracy and reliability
  • Contribute to system testing and commissioning activities, including functional testing, integration testing, and defect documentation under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Support requirements gathering and documentation efforts by assisting with data collection, process documentation, and technical notes.
  • Develop and maintain project and technical documentation, including configuration records, test results, user guides, and training materials.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and issue resolution activities, escalating findings and supporting root cause analysis efforts as appropriate.
  • Participate in client meetings, workshops, and working sessions to gain exposure to utility operations and system integration practices.
  • Support project execution activities including task tracking, coordination, and status updates as directed by project managers or senior consultants.
  • Collaborate with consultants, architects, engineers, and cybersecurity team members to support integrated grid solution delivery.
  • Support proposal and business development activities by assisting with background research, content development, and supporting materials.
  • Comply with all company policies, safety requirements, and quality standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Business, Computer Science, or MIS or related field from accredited program required.
  • Applicable years of experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge in implementation technologies, principles and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Basic computer skills in implementation software and technologies.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
