Union Insurance information

What is union insurance?

Union insurance refers to insurance benefits provided through labor unions to their members. These benefits can include life insurance, health insurance, disability coverage, and other protections negotiated by the union as part of employment contracts. Union insurance is designed to offer members better coverage and rates than they might obtain individually, and is often tailored to the specific needs of the union’s workforce. Access to union insurance and the specifics of coverage will vary depending on the union and the agreements in place with employers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a union insurance agent?

To thrive as a Union Insurance Agent, you need strong knowledge of insurance products, sales expertise, and a relevant insurance license. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software, underwriting tools, and industry compliance systems is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, negotiation abilities, and trustworthiness help agents build lasting relationships with union members. These competencies are vital to effectively match members with the right policies, maintain regulatory compliance, and achieve sales goals.

What are the typical challenges faced by professionals working in union insurance roles, and how can they be successfully managed?

Professionals in Union Insurance often navigate complex policy structures and must stay current with evolving union regulations and member needs. One common challenge is balancing the interests of union members with compliance requirements and insurer policies. Success in this role depends on strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to build trusting relationships with both members and insurance carriers. Regular training and collaboration with legal and HR teams can help manage these challenges effectively.

Job description

Who We Are:
For over 100 years, City Union Mission has offered hope to men, women and children experiencing huge challenges. Homelessness. Addiction. Poverty. We start by extending a welcoming hand and helping to meet their immediate needs - food, shelter, clothing. From there, we offer them a new foundation for their lives through Christ - and life-changing programs that move them toward physical, emotional and spiritual wholeness.
Job Summary:
Our emergency shelter mission is to serve by providing immediate, short-term, and dignified refuge for individuals and families in crisis - protecting life, meeting basic needs, sharing the Gospel at each point of care, and creating a clear bridge to appropriate next steps.
The Peer Support Specialist models Christ-centered hospitality while leading the day, evening, and night operations of the emergency shelter, is responsible for the overall environment of the center and the well-being of every client and family unit in the building, and upholds a culture that shares the Gospel at each point of care.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and shepherding to clients and family units during assigned shifts: reinforce structure, dignity, and clear expectations
  • Spend intentional time relationally engaged with clients: prioritize presence while maintaining accountability and structure
  • Participate in and coordinate mealtime and fellowship environments: model healthy interaction, reinforce community expectations, and demonstrate servant leadership
  • Welcome, orient, and support volunteers and interns: integrate them into chapel, meals, and daily routines with clarity and oversight
  • Take ownership of shift operations including safety, cleanliness, task completion, and overall center flow
  • Assist in managing real-time capacity and occupancy; ensure rooms and beds are utilized appropriately, census is accurate, and intake barriers are addressed
  • Provide accurate, timely verbal and written observations of client behavior, needs, and incidents to leadership
  • Monitor and support hygiene, shower, and laundry routines

Qualifications:
City Union Mission Requirements:
  • To be a genuine believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, as evidenced by your personal testimony and your ability to clearly communicate the Gospel whenever opportunities arise.
  • To possess sound Biblical character and refrain from engaging in an immoral lifestyle that could undermine or disrupt your testimony as a follower of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
  • To be a member in good standing of a recognized Protestant, evangelical church.
  • Agree and abide within the City Union Mission faith statement.
  • To be genuinely committed to serving the poor and homeless, as expressed in the mission statement of City Union Mission.
  • To be sober-minded, free from the influence of alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, or any substance that could cloud judgment or distract from a Christian-principled ministry.

Employee Benefits:
  • 95% of the premium covered for Health Insurance
  • Dental and Vision insurance at a discounted rate
  • Health Reimbursement Account for employees who have other health insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • 403b Retirement Account match
  • FSA & HSA options
  • 11 paid holidays per year + over 3 weeks of PTO + opportunity to earn additional days off
  • Discount at City Thrift stores
  • Paid 30-minute lunch break; free breakfast/lunch/dinner available
