Job description

Join AMERICAN SYSTEMS, an employee-owned federal contractor, is seeking a highly skilled Lead Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) Administrator to lead the administration, optimization, and modernization of enterprise Cisco unified communications environments supporting mission critical operations in Wahington, DC.

In this role, you will provide technical leadership for complex voice, video, and collaboration systems, ensuring secure, reliable, and high performing communications capabilities across the organization.

This position includes a $5,000 Sign-on Bonus on top of a comprehensive compensation package!


As a Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administrator with AMERICAN SYSTEMS, you will have the opportunity to do the following:

  • Take charge of the design, deployment, and optimization of mission-critical communication systems.
  • Provide strategic guidance to the team, while driving system improvements across a global footprint.
  • Lead the design, deployment, and management of Unified Communications systems, including Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Cisco Unity, and Telepresence Management Server.
  • Act as a senior escalation point, resolving complex UC issues such as voice and video challenges and call routing conflicts.
  • Oversee the management of UC endpoints, including Cisco VoIP phones and video conferencing systems.
  • Plan and execute large-scale system upgrades, migrations, and hardware refreshes.
  • Develop and enforce UC security policies to ensure compliance with DoD standards.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering skill development and technical excellence.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including network engineers, cybersecurity professionals, and third-party vendors, to ensure seamless UC operations.
  • Maintain and update operational documentation, including system architecture diagrams and technical guides.
  • Deliver regular performance and activity reports to senior leadership, identifying trends and recommending improvements.

  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Field (additional experience and/or certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree)
  • 8 - 10 years of relevant networking or systems administration experience
  • Current Security+ CE or equivalent DoD 8140 IAT Level II or III certification
  • Demonstrated success managing enterprise scale Cisco Unified Communications systems, preferably in a DoD environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of:
    • Cisco Unified Communications Manager
    • Cisco Unity
    • Voice Gateways
    • Cisco VTC codecs
    • VoIP endpoints
    • Telepresence Management Server
  • Strong understanding of:
    • VoIP protocols, including SIPH323, and RTP
    • QoS principles
  • Experience integrating unified communications systems with third party platforms, such as Microsoft Teams
  • Experience with at least three of the following:
    • Cisco Meeting Server
    • Cisco Meeting Manager
    • Telepresence Management Suite
    • Cisco Expressways
    • vBrick
    • Vyopta
  • Exceptional leadershipcommunication, and troubleshooting skills
  • Advanced Cisco collaboration certifications, such as CCNP Collaboration or CCIE Collaboration, are a plus.

Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
