Job description

General Responsibilities:
The MSB G.A. position will all be utilized to support regular biology department needs (i.e., greenhouse manager, departmental office support), undergraduate lab course preparations (i.e., lab set-up and take downs, co-leading lab sections under the guidance of a faculty member) and depending on the individual's skill set and work/educational experiences, potentially co-leading select undergraduate lectures. Position will require a commitment of approximately 20 hours per week.
Specific Responsibilities and Duties:
Advising Responsibilities
Once hired, G.A. will receive specific laboratory support assignment(s) and overview of the department's supplies and laboratory organization. Graduate Assistant will work closely with selected professor(s) who will oversee their selected laboratory responsibilities.
  • Work with selected professors gathering materials and pre-lab preparations
  • Assist laboratory professors in facilitating lab sections and assisting students with procedures and laboratory assignments.
  • Oversee post lab responsibilities, namely clean-up and the storage of laboratory resources.
  • Possibly co-leading selected lab sections under the guidance of professor.
  • Assist in departmental needs including departmental office support and the grading of selected lab assignments for professors.
  • Depending on the skill set and work/educational experiences of each applicant, GA may potentially co-lead select undergraduate lectures.

Required qualifications:
Graduate student in good standing in the MS in Biology Program.
