As of Aug 7, 2026, the average hourly pay for udt in the United States is $26.29, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $19.23 and $29.81 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a UDT?

UDT stands for Underwater Demolition Team, which were specialized military units in the United States Navy responsible for reconnaissance and demolition tasks, particularly in preparation for amphibious landings. These teams originated during World War II and were skilled in clearing obstacles from beaches, conducting underwater demolitions, and gathering intelligence. UDTs are considered the precursors to the modern Navy SEALs, and their legacy continues in current naval special operations forces. Members underwent rigorous physical and mental training to perform missions in challenging underwater environments.

What is the difference between Udt vs Data Analyst?

AspectUdtData Analyst
Required CredentialsTypically requires technical certifications or training in data collection and analysisUsually requires a bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, or related fields
Work EnvironmentWorks primarily in data collection, testing, and quality assurance settingsWorks in offices or remotely analyzing data to generate reports and insights
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in manufacturing, engineering, and quality assurance sectorsCommon in finance, marketing, healthcare, and business sectors

Udt (User Defined Test) professionals focus on testing and quality assurance processes, often within technical or manufacturing environments. Data Analysts interpret data to support decision-making across various industries. While both roles involve data handling, Udt emphasizes testing procedures, whereas Data Analysts focus on data analysis and reporting.

What are some typical challenges faced by Underwater Demolition Technicians and how can job seekers prepare for them?

Underwater Demolition Technicians (UDTs) often encounter physically demanding environments, such as strong currents, limited visibility, and the need to work with explosives underwater. Staying calm under pressure and maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols are essential. Building strong swimming skills, physical fitness, and familiarity with diving equipment can help job seekers prepare for these challenges. Additionally, UDTs work closely in teams, so developing effective communication and teamwork abilities is crucial for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Underwater Demolition Technician?

To thrive as an Underwater Demolition Technician, you need advanced swimming and diving skills, strong physical fitness, and specialized military training, often supported by completion of rigorous programs like Navy SEAL or equivalent. Proficiency with underwater navigation, demolition tools, and explosive handling certifications is critical. Exceptional teamwork, mental resilience, and quick decision-making are vital soft skills for success in high-pressure environments. These abilities ensure mission success, safety, and effective performance in complex and hazardous underwater operations.
