Job description

Job Title: Lawn & IPM SpecialistPosition Overview

The Lawn & IPM Specialist is a critical, high-autonomy role within our Grounds Management division. You aren’t just applying treatments; you are the primary steward of our clients' landscape health. Using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles, you will diagnose issues, implement precision solutions, and ensure regulatory excellence. Reporting directly to the Production Manager, you will operate as a technical expert who balances environmental safety with aesthetic perfection.


Key Responsibilities1. Specialized Horticulture & IPM Execution
  • Precision Application: Execute advanced IPM protocols to ensure the safe mixing, loading, and application of fertilizers and pesticides.

  • Field Diagnostics: Proactively identify turf and ornamental pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies; develop and deploy effective, environmentally responsible remedies.

  • Regulatory Stewardship: Maintain an immaculate chemical storage facility. Ensure 100% compliance by keeping meticulous Pesticide Application Records (PAR) and site-specific history reports.

  • Safety Leadership: Serve as the on-site safety officer for all chemical handling, strictly adhering to EPA/state labeling requirements and public safety standards.

2. Operational Excellence
  • Dynamic Support: Lead specialized seasonal projects, including annual flower installations and high-value landscape enhancements.

  • Winter Operations: Pivot to essential snow and ice management during winter months to ensure client safety.

  • Fleet & Logistics: Safely operate company vehicles and trailers, ensuring equipment is maintained and transported according to DOT standards.

  • Agile Scheduling: Adapt your schedule (early mornings or evenings) to maximize treatment efficacy and minimize public exposure.

3. Communication & Leadership
  • Strategic Reporting: Provide daily briefings to Management regarding pest trends, soil conditions, and site-specific challenges.

  • Consultative Service: Act as a professional liaison for clients, answering technical questions with clarity and confidence.

  • Mentorship: Educate and train maintenance crews on "best practices" for plant health to prevent issues before they require chemical intervention.

  • Documentation: Utilize digital or manual systems to provide accurate daily timesheets and production logs.


Qualifications
  • Experience: Proven experience in turf management, horticulture, or a related field.

  • Licensing: Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record are required. (Optional: Mention specific State Pesticide Applicator License if required).

  • Acumen: Strong ability to work independently and make data-driven decisions in the field.

Required Skills
  • Ability to obtain NC Pesticide Applicators License (Ground Applicator, Sub Class l turf and Ornamental) within 90 days of employment in this position.
  • Ability to obtain other Pesticide specialty licenses.

  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work around bees, poison ivy, pollen, thorns and other environmental risks
  • Must be able to read and understand standard Pesticide Labeling and perform proper procedures for mixing,
  • Must adhere to Bland landscaping uniforms and present yourself in a clean and polite manner
  • Must have valid NC Driver’s license and maintain a good driving record
  • Must comply with Bland’s policies and procedures/demonstrate Bland’s commitment to excellence
  • Ability to pass a background check is required.  

Required Experience

 Must have 1 + years experience in Horticultural Pest Management/IPM or the equivalent.
