Family Support Provider (TUC - Special Education)

The University Corporation is a non-profit auxiliary corporation providing commercial and administrative services to California State University, Northridge. Our mission is to provide services and solutions that address the needs of California State University, Northridge; to support the academic, research, and creative endeavors of its students, faculty, and staff; and to enhance the quality of campus life.
Overview: Under the supervision of the Director, the Family Support Provider works directly with families participating in the Early Start and School-Age Programs by providing information, resources, encouragement, and ongoing support. The Family Support Provider builds positive relationships with families and collaborates with professionals to help ensure participants receive the services and support they need. Responsibilities include maintaining regular and responsive communication with parents and professionals through in-person meetings and virtual platforms (including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, email, & social media), providing parent education and facilitating family engagement activities, maintaining accurate participant records and data entry, assisting with outreach efforts, and completing other duties and special projects as assigned. This is a full-time, in person position (30 hours per week). Occasional evening and weekend hours are required to participate in family events, trainings, community outreach and other training activities.
Duties and Responsibilities (other duties as assigned):
  • Provide ongoing support, guidance, and timely communication to parents, caregivers, and professionals through phone, in-person meetings, email, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and social media. Respond to inquiries, connect families with appropriate resources and services, and foster collaborative relationships with community partners and service providers.
  • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate parent education workshops, support groups, trainings, and family engagement activities. Create educational materials, resource guides, and other program resources to support families and increase awareness of available services.
  • Plan and participate in community outreach activities, resource fairs, transition fairs, and other events to promote programs, strengthen community partnerships, and increase access to services for children and families.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential participant records, complete required data entry and documentation, prepare reports as needed, and ensure compliance with program and organizational requirements.
  • Participate in staff meetings, advisory board meetings, program planning, and other collaborative activities. Engage in ongoing professional development by attending required trainings, conferences, staff development days, and retreats to enhance knowledge and strengthen service delivery.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned in support of the organization's mission, program objectives, and the evolving needs of participating families.

Qualifications:
Bilingual in English and another language commonly spoken by the families served.
Lived experience as a parent, caregiver, or close family member of a child with a disability or developmental delay.
Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with families, professionals, and community partners while working collaboratively as an effective member of a team.
  • Demonstrated compassion, empathy, and a commitment to supporting families of children with disabilities or children who are at risk for developmental delays or disabilities.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to respond promptly and professionally to inquiries by phone, email, Zoom, and social media platforms (including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube).
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Working knowledge of early intervention, special education, community resources, and family support services, or the ability to acquire this knowledge quickly. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience using databases and other technology platforms to maintain accurate records and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to organize work independently, manage multiple priorities, maintain confidentiality, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The anticipated hiring range: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
Time Base: Full-Time
