Job description

Job Summary:
Caterpillar Inc. is a global team focused on creating sustainable communities through innovation and progress. They are seeking a Mining Forecast Analyst to support global Resource Industries forecasting by developing and analyzing forecasts that influence business planning and decision-making across the organization.
Responsibilities:
• Monitor economic trends and market conditions impacting Mining, Quarrying, and Resource Industries
• Develop forecasts for: Monthly Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP), Long Term Forecast (LTF), Annual Business Planning (ABP)
• Track Sales to User, Shipment, and Order activity, analyzing variances and identifying forecast risks
• Develop and maintain forecasting models using statistical and economic methodologies
• Utilize tools such as Power BI, Excel, and data platforms to build reports, visualize trends, and communicate insights
• Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights to support business decisions
• Partner with business teams to align forecasts and communicate findings to leadership audiences
• Prepare and deliver reports through presentations, written analysis, and meetings
• Support ad hoc analysis and forecasting requests as needed
Qualifications:
Required:
• Strong foundation in economic analysis, statistical modeling, or quantitative forecasting
• Ability to analyze trends and develop data-driven forecasts and scenarios
• Experience with Power BI, Excel, and data analysis tools
• Exposure to Python or similar analytical tools is a plus
• Ability to effectively communicate complex information to a broad set of stakeholders, including leadership
• Experience translating analysis into insights and recommendations
• Master’s degree Economics, Finance, Data Analytics, Mathematics, or a related field
Preferred:
• Experience in statistical forecasting or sales and operations planning (S&OP)
• Ability to identify patterns, trends, and gaps in complex datasets
• Experience presenting analytical insights to leadership audiences
• Exposure to mining, construction, or industrial markets
• Experience using Power BI or similar visualization tools
