JOB SUMMARY
The Transportation Manager (Safety) is responsible for leading and advancing transportation safety, regulatory compliance, and risk management programs. This role drives a culture of safety excellence by ensuring adherence to DOT and FMCSA regulations, proactively mitigating risk, and improving driver performance through data-driven insights, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Leads and guides team in accomplishing work objectives within assigned function
• Coaches, inspires, rewards, and recognizes team members to drive engagement and performance
• Establishes clear goals and performance expectations and holds team accountable for results
• Develops, implements, and continuously improves transportation safety programs and initiatives
• Promotes a proactive, safety-first culture across all levels of the organization
• Oversees and utilizes fleet safety technology (Netradyne) to monitor driver performance and behavior
• Analyzes safety events, scorecards, and trends to identify risks and improvement opportunities
• Communicates performance insights and expectations to drivers and leadership
• Provides coaching, feedback, and corrective action plans to improve driver safety performance
• Ensures full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations
• Maintains accurate documentation, reporting, and records to support audit readiness
• Stays current on regulatory changes and implements updates to policies, procedures, and practices
• Leads accident investigations including root cause analysis and corrective action planning
• Partners with internal and external stakeholders to mitigate risk and prevent recurrence
• Tracks and reports incident trends to drive proactive safety improvements
• Oversees driver safety training programs, certifications, and ongoing compliance requirements
• Conducts audits to ensure drivers maintain qualifications to operate equipment safely
• Monitors safety KPIs, leading indicators, and lagging metrics to evaluate program effectiveness
• Partners with operations leadership to identify risks and implement practical, effective solutions
• Supports overall store operations and completes additional duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Strong knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations and transportation safety standards
• Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and translate insights into actionable improvements
• Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development capabilities

• Effective communication and influencing skills across multiple levels of the organization

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
• Associate's degree or accredited certification in logistics, transportation, or a related field required
• Current Class A CDL and DOT medical card or ability to successfully obtain are required
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in driving and managing CDL tractor-trailer operations, dispatch, logistics, or related field
• Prior leadership experience required
• Experience with telematics, preferably with Samsara and/or Netradyne
