Job Summary

The Station Trainer will deliver, administer, and evaluate learning and development programs in accordance with the organization’s training and development plan to ensure management and staff acquire the skills and develop the competencies required, while ensuring company and customer service standards and policies are met.

While maintaining a high level of proficiency and certification in required operational functions, this role will deliver in person classroom instruction and/or virtual instructor led events, utilize and manage eLearning programs, and provide on the job coaching for both new hires and current employees.

This role will supervise On the Job Coaching activities to ensure Swissport (SPI), United Express (UAX) and local specific requirements are met while providing direction for all new hires until formally released to the operation to work independently.

The Station Trainer will utilize multiple systems to document delivered training, monitor and report compliance, and generate forecast reports to determining training needs. This role will be responsible for developing and executing processes to insure timely and efficient delivery of required training and follow through with compliance confirmation, reporting and documentation.


The expected pay rate is $22/hr. Full-time employees are offered a range of health and wellness benefits as well as 401(k) with company match paid vacation time, sick time, and company paid holidays.  

Job Responsbilites

  • Remain current on new developments and utilize new processes, or delivery methods from the Training, Learning and Development team so that the station training activities remain current and relevant
  • Coordinate, schedule and deliver training and development programs that can be delivered in the form of in person individual or group instruction, classroom instruction, eLearning and/or virtual instructor led events
  • Forecast and plan for new hire, recurrent and developmental training needs while maintaining on going communication and coordination with involved team members; Human Resources, Area Trainer(s), Training Manager, Area Training Manager, Operations Management, and others as required
  • Assign, register or request applicable eLearning lessons/modules for new and current employees and follow up by monitoring and reporting progress as required
  • Develop and execute processes to insure timely and efficient delivery of required training and follow through with compliance documentation, reporting and confirmation
  • Maintain timely and accurate training records for all employees as required across multiple digital systems
  • Generate, file, and maintain paper records of training where applicable
  • Ensure a smooth transition to the operation for the new hires
  • Proactively collaborate, communicate, and coordinate daily with fellow team members regarding daily tasks, goals, objectives, or challenges
  • Deliver and document initial, recurrent, and developmental training and examinations in accordance with global and local standards
  • Generate, deliver, and present regular training compliance and progress reports for initial, recurrent, and developmental training programs to station management or others in accordance with global and local standards as requested
  • Generate and deliver training hour reports and rosters for initial, recurrent, and developmental training programs to station management and payroll or others in accordance with global and local standards as requested
  • Evaluate and determine if individuals can safely, and satisfactorily complete tasks as trained in accordance with global and local standards prior to release into the operation to work independently
  • Identify individuals unable to satisfactorily pass or safely perform required duties as trained and intervene as appropriate
  • Provide support to Training, Learning and Development, Human Resources, Operational Management, and other teams as required
  • Monitor and evaluate training programs and requirements of individuals and organizations
  • Supervise the On-the-Job Coaching (OJC) program and serve as tier one support for certified On-the-Job Coaches
  • Perform the duties of and function as an OJC Coach when needed
  • Obtain and maintain required UAX Station Trainer certifications such as but not limited to: United Station Training Coordinator, United Level 1, Swissport OJC, applicable Swissport instructor certifications and SPI regulatory training certifications required to serve as a trainer
  • Maintain current up to date training presentations and instructional training materials including tests and supporting training reference documentation
  • Coordinate logistics to facilitate required training as applicable
  • Support training blitz events, processes and training support personnel as required
  • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled or unscheduled training community and/or local meetings in person or virtually as required
  • Audit and evaluate operations/colleagues for quality assurance and compliance, developing and delivering corrective actions as necessary
  • Perform regular competency assessments for all new and existing employees
  • Proactively seek and receive appropriate developmental training to ensure current and relevant skill level
  • Continually support and promote a positive safety culture amongst new and current employees by maintaining and projecting a self-commitment to safety minded culture and by sharing best practices and lessons learned
  • When observed, immediately stop any unsafe act or failure to follow standard operating procedure; coach employee(s) on the spot as applicable and report the incident to operational and safety management accordingly
  • Assist with or perform other assignments and duties as assigned

Your profile

  • Minimum 3 years of industry experience in ground handling
  • Minimum 1 year of experience serving as classroom instructor or 2 years serving as On the Job Training or Coaching experience
  • 12 months of operational experience in Ramp
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to pass security clearance and possess a valid driver's license
  • Subject matter expertise in ramp procedures
  • Flexible to work various shifts (days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays) to accommodate training demands during off peak hours
  • Willingness and ability to work in inclement weather
  • Supervisory or Leader experience in leading and directing work groups, and evaluating performance
  • Computer systems: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills, professionalism, integrity, and autonomy
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Sense of leadership, diplomacy, and team spirit
  • Comfortable operating large equipment, working from an elevated platform at height, during inclement weather
