Job description

  • DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION
    • The Pharmacy Technician Trainee position is a training opportunity to become registered and a Certified Pharmacy Technician. The Pharmacy Technician Trainee assists other technicians in the BMC Pharmacy and participates in the Berkshire Health Systems Certified Pharmacy Technician Education Program. The Pharmacy Technician Trainee receives clinical skill instruction. After gaining appropriate knowledge and skill, he or she functions clinically under the direction of the preceptor and will perform other duties as requested by the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor and/or Pharmacy Clinical Manager.
  • POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)
    • Experience:
      • Entry level, no experience required.
    • Education and Training:
      • High School diploma or equivalent required.
      • Solid work history is preferred.
    • License, Certification & Registration:
      • PHTECT - Registered MA Pharm Tech or Trainee. Trainee must pass boards after minimum of 500 hrs. but not to exceed the sooner of 1500 hours or 1 year.
    • Other Requirements:
      • Successfully completes the pharmacy technician didactic courses within the time frames specified by the preceptor.
      • Successfully passes all relevant post-tests.
      • Experience in basic office skills preferred.
      • Data entry skills preferred.
      • Working knowledge of Windows based PC applications required.
      • Ability to work independently and take direction.
      • Demonstrated ability to read and follow written/verbal direction.
      • Sensitive to diverse cultures and cultural differences.
      • Ability to learn new computer software; Ability to adapt to fast-paced, multifaceted position.
      • Good telephone communication skills.
      • Must be flexible to cover for vacations and earned time absences.
      • Flexible hours required. Self-motivated and ability to be independent and flexible within a team framework.
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
      • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
      • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
      • Punctual and strong work ethic.
