Summary of the role:
Are you passionate about renewable energy and ready to lead a dynamic team towards crafting a balanced future? GRID Alternatives is seeking an outstanding Crew Manager in the North Valley area (Sacramento) who will play a pivotal role in our field operations team. This is an outstanding opportunity to combine your technical expertise with leadership skills to deliver world-class solar and energy storage installations for low-income families.
What you will be doing (essential responsibilities)
  • Take charge of all technical and safety aspects of PV installations.
  • Coordinate service cases and AHJ inspections as needed.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed safely in accordance with OSHA and GRID Alternatives standards.
  • Accurately record and upload all required site documentation promptly.
  • Input data into the Salesforce database meticulously for every project.
  • Manage installations of PV solar electric and/or battery energy storage systems.
  • Participate in additional tasks such as equipment purchasing, hardware store runs, equipment unloading and loading.
  • Connect with homeowners, volunteers, media, and take part in activities vital to bringing solar energy to low-income families.

Supervise assigned crew in all aspects, including:
  • Approval and submission of team's timecards and PTO requests in collaboration with your manager
  • Day-to-day scheduling of crew activities to meet departmental goals while minimizing overtime.
  • Conduct regular meetings with team members to monitor progress and provide feedback on job performance, including quarterly and yearly reviews
  • Regularly collaborate with your supervisor to review progress towards goals for both you and the team.

Requirements
Your areas of knowledge and expertise...
  • 3-5 years of experience in solar or electrical installations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
  • Strong electrical skills applicable to both residential and commercial sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge of solar PV and energy storage systems.
  • Comfortable working on roofs and performing physically fast-paced tasks, including lifting and standing for extended periods in various weather conditions.
  • Skilled in using fundamental hand and power tools, and capable of working in demanding conditions.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong collaborative attitude with the ability to work with trainees, volunteers, and clients professionally.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation; must pass pre-employment screening.
  • Basic computer and technology skills, including Microsoft Office, Gmail, and Salesforce.
  • Verified leadership capabilities to manage various tasks, plan proactively, coordinate seamlessly, and deliver outstanding quality standards.
  • Experience in PV system installation and troubleshooting.
  • Flexibility and willingness to embrace change, focus, commit, and bring innovative ideas and energy to our organization.
  • Willingness to occasionally work on evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Los Angeles region.

It would also be great if you had:
  • Experience in training and/or working with volunteers or trainees.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Sketchup or AutoCAD.
  • NABCEP certification or similar credentials (preferred but not required).
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM database.

Compensation:
The compensation range for this is an hourly fulltime position: $80-$89K . The base pay that will actually be offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, experience and take into account internal equity.

Where you will sit & the places you may go...
The ideal candidate will sit in Ideal candidate is between Sacramento and Oakland or willing to travel to both offices project sites often. This position may require up to 25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects such as org-wide celebrations, team building exercises, etc. Availability to work nights and weekends may very rarely be required. GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use. In this instance, applicants must hold a valid driver's license and have a good driving record.
