Job description

Position Summary

Deliver consistent onโ€‘theโ€‘job training that accelerates technician proficiency, reinforces safety and quality standards, and supports stable injection molding processes. Serve as a technical mentor, maintain accurate training records, and promote continuous improvement through effective coaching and crossโ€‘functional collaboration.


Reporting Relationships
  • Reports to: IM Process Coordinator
  • Works with: IM Department Head, IM Production OJT Team Leader, IM process technicians, IM operators, quality technicians, manufacturing & industrial engineering and various support personnel (logistics, maintenance & HR)

Responsibilities & Duties
  • Provides onโ€‘theโ€‘job training for IM process technicians, IM tooling technicians and other IM employees, as required, based on learning objectives recorded on jobโ€‘specific training checklists.
  • Supports the identification of training needs (OJT, area specific safety & quality).
  • Develops processโ€‘specific training checklists & tracking tools, and works with HR to keep documentation up to date.
  • Schedules, prepares & conducts general knowledge training, department tours, information sharing, meet & greet sessions, etc., that support the effective transition of new technician employees from HR orientations to effective rampโ€‘up into assigned departments/job classifications.
  • Works with QA to monitor quality variations, improve CPK values and initiates CRP improvements when needed.
  • Constantly monitors machine process performance, cycle times, reject numbers and tolerance settings to detect deviations and works with the process technician team to get processes back into control.
  • Actively looks for training opportunities to improve & stay up to date on jobโ€‘specific applications and programs such as productivity dashboards, KPI monitoring tools, molding equipmentโ€‘specific software, information storage (such as Confluence) and others.
  • Monitors & measures work & behavior of all members of the work group to identify performance and/or nonโ€‘compliance issues & initiates corrective action where necessary.
  • Tracks completion of all assignments & maintains files as directed.
  • Supports implementation of manufacturing specification changes, rollout of new IS applications/feature changes & safety training sessions for production & maintenance personnel.
  • Audits the skills of employees & makes recommendations for remedial training.
  • Models the behaviors expected of the trainees & new employees while on the job.
  • Provides verbal & written feedback on work assignments & their progress.
  • Provides input on factors that may be a barrier to the desired outcome of all assignments.
  • Follows all company rules/policies pertaining to production departments.
  • Can operate all IM production equipment and can fulfill all tasks of IM operator personnel, including the QA gauges and software.
  • Works 1st shift schedule but maintains flexibility to work all shifts & overtime when required.
  • Designated department apprenticeship mentor, expected to complete all mentorship training and do the monthly apprenticeship evaluations.

Key Tasks
  • Review quality check compliance daily and address nonโ€‘compliance.
  • Review material quality issues reported on offโ€‘shifts and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Ensure product labels are correctly placed at machines.
  • Check schedule daily and direct team to prepare for order changes on all shifts.
  • Coordinate production shift meetings and inform team & IM Process Coordinator of any issues.
  • Coordinate activities of process technician personnel & work with IM production OJT team leader to allocate personnel to machines/halls when shortโ€‘handed.
  • Train all IM tooling & process technicians on IM machine/auxiliary equipment setups, IM software systems (BDK, Authentig, CMMS, etc.), production trial procedures, equipment maintenance schedules and CMMS work orders and the safe operation of equipment, including the use of proper PPE.
  • Coordinate product changeovers.
  • Coordinate housekeeping activities.
  • Coordinate timer updates when required (holidays, adverse weather, etc.).
  • Provide guidance/direction to operators, inserters & material handlers & monitor performance against standards.
  • Confer with IM Process Coordinator, IM Department Head & optimization team leader to coordinate continuous improvement activities within or between shifts.
  • Recommend and/or implement measures to increase employee efficiency through improved production methods, equipment performance & product quality.
  • Monitor 6S in the area and ensure issues are addressed daily (equipment out of position, parts/pellets on the ground, water leaks, safety hazards, etc.).
  • Perform process technician duties when required due to absenteeism.

Qualifications / Abilities
  • Minimum 5 years of production experience in a mediumโ€‘sized industrial/manufacturing environment is required.
  • Prior experience with the injection molding process is required.
  • Previous OJT training experience is preferred.
  • Ability to use computer programs and applications (SAP, MS Teams, Confluence, Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Visio (flowcharting)).
  • Ability to communicate information & ideas in speaking or writing so others will understand.
  • Ability to listen & read to understand information & ideas presented by others.
  • Gathering information through active listening, interviews & other probing methods.
  • Managing meetings & group processes to enhance problem solving, decision quality, commitment and conflict resolution.
  • Coordinate activities & effectively manage time to achieve daily goals.
  • Obtaining, evaluating & reporting data.

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certified/documented training preferred (apprenticeship, RJG certification, college or technical degree in plastics, polymer chemistry, manufacturing, etc.).
