Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Prep Cook to join our kitchen team at The Front Yard at Ellis Island Casino. As a Prep Cook, you will play a critical role in ensuring that all ingredients are prepped, organized, and ready for use in the preparation of meals. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, providing high-quality dining experiences to our guests.

Responsibilities
  • Wash, peel, chop, slice, and prepare all ingredients according to recipes and specifications.
  • Organize and maintain your prep station with all necessary ingredients, tools, and equipment.
  • Assist with inventory control by checking stock levels and ensuring that fresh ingredients are available and properly stored.
  • Ensure that all food prepared meets the restaurant's quality standards and food safety regulations.
  • Work closely with all team members to ensure timely and efficient meal preparation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the prep area, adhere to health and safety standards, and sanitize kitchen equipment and surfaces regularly.
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as knives, peelers, slicers, and other prep tools safely and efficiently.
  • Assist line cooks during busy periods, ensuring a smooth and continuous flow of prepared ingredients for cooking.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and procedures, including proper storage of food items and handling of hazardous materials.

Skills/ Experience
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 1 year of kitchen experience, ideally as a prep cook or in a similar food prep role.
  • Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment and cooking techniques.
  • Ability to follow recipes and portion control guidelines.
  • Understanding of food safety regulations and sanitation practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, especially during peak times.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holiday .
  • Comprehension of the English language both written and oral.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred.
  • Ability to pass a background check prior to hire.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada Health Card.

Physical Requirements
  • Work outdoors less than 25% of the time.
  • Must possess the ability to lift, bend, and kneel.
  • Must be able to stand and walk swiftly for long periods of time while carrying large service trays.
  • Ability to work in environments that can be smoky, noisy, hot, cold, or humid.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds without assistance and lift 50 pounds with assistance.
