Job description

Primary Purpose

Under general supervision, the Substation Civil Structural Engineer 2 supports the design and development of electrical substation projects by applying civil and structural engineering principles. This role builds upon foundational experience and demonstrates a growing ability to execute design tasks, perform engineering calculations, and contribute to project deliverables.

The Engineer 2 continues to develop technical expertise in substation site design, grading, foundations, and structural systems while collaborating with internal teams and supporting client interactions.

Job Responsibilities
  • Continues to develop knowledge of substation civil/structural design practices, including site layout, grading, drainage, foundations, and structural components (steel and concrete).
  • Supports the preparation of engineering deliverables including site plans, grading plans, foundation designs, structural details, reports, and specifications.
  • Performs basic to moderately complex engineering calculations (e.g., foundation design, structural loading, drainage analysis) using standard methods.
  • Assists in the development and QA/QC of design deliverables in accordance with the companyโ€™s quality program.
  • Coordinates with multidisciplinary teams (electrical, structural, and civil) to ensure alignment of design components.
  • Communicates with internal team members and may support interactions with clients for data requests, site visits, and design clarifications.
  • Participates in site visits to support data collection, field verification, and design development.
  • Assists in managing task-level schedules, priorities, and deliverables under the guidance of senior engineers or project managers.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements and supports continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develops an understanding of client needs and project drivers and supports the project team in meeting those expectations.
  • Collects, organizes, and manages engineering data to support design activities.
  • Ensures accurate and timely completion of timesheets, expense reports, and assigned tasks.
  • Maintains awareness of project scope and communicates potential changes or concerns to project leadership.
Experience
  • Minimum of 1+ years of relevant civil/structural engineering experience (internship or full-time) in utility, infrastructure, or related design work; or a Masterโ€™s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Exposure to substation design, site development, or structural design is preferred.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred
