Job description

Position

MIO is seeking a Trading Strategist to join the Investment team and report to a PM/Partner.

Adhering to MIO best practices, this individual will develop expertise across multiple asset classes and support optimization of our execution strategies through quantitative analysis. The successful candidate will be energetic, detail-oriented, and proactive in partnering with the execution desk to examine and refine trade implementation.

The Investment team functions in a highly collaborative and intellectually challenging environment. Our Portfolio Managers oversee our research-driven approach to the financial markets, with a focus on mathematical and scientific rigor and standards. The Trading Strategist is expected to become an integral part of the trading and research-focused team, contributing to ad hoc initiatives and projects as required.

Primary responsibilities

  • Employ quantitative methods to optimize and innovate on trade implementation processes
  • Research and analyze ways to enhance existing algorithms (eg: VWAP, peg), build models (market impact, optimal schedule), and develop short-term signals (eg: volume, price, fair value)
  • Work closely with traders to translate research findings into practical algorithmic improvements
  • Develop and test market heuristics to inform and monitor algo wheels and execution optimization
  • Perform systematic transaction cost analysis and work with traders to identify areas of high slippage/cost and make data-driven adjustments to mitigate inefficiencies

Desired background

Experience

  • Degree from a top-tier university in quantitative or scientific discipline
  • 5-10 years of experience in quantitative research/trading
  • Experience with quantitative modeling and optimization techniques for execution algorithms
  • Experience in one or more of the following asset classes (Commodities, FX, Fixed Income)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to assess, prioritize and execute multiple tasks under pressure

Technical skills

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it actionable insights
  • Strong quantitative skills, detail orientation, and proficiency in Python programming
