What is Uniswap?

Uniswap is a popular decentralized exchange (DEX) built on the Ethereum blockchain that allows users to swap various cryptocurrencies directly from their wallets without relying on a centralized intermediary. It uses an automated market maker (AMM) model, which enables liquidity providers to earn fees by supplying tokens to liquidity pools. Uniswap is known for its open-source protocol, permissionless trading, and ease of use, making it a key platform in the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem.

What are the typical responsibilities of a software engineer working at Uniswap?

As a software engineer at Uniswap, you'll typically be involved in designing, building, and maintaining decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols and applications on the Ethereum blockchain. Your daily tasks may include collaborating with cross-functional teams such as product managers, designers, and security experts to deliver high-quality, secure code. You'll also participate in code reviews, write and test smart contracts, and contribute to open-source projects. The fast-paced environment encourages innovation and problem-solving, making it ideal for individuals passionate about blockchain technology and DeFi.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Uniswap developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Uniswap Developer, you need a strong background in blockchain technology, smart contract development (especially Solidity), and understanding of decentralized finance (DeFi) principles. Familiarity with tools such as Truffle, Hardhat, Ethers.js, and experience using version control systems like Git are essential, along with knowledge of security best practices and, optionally, relevant certifications such as Certified Ethereum Developer. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective collaboration are vital soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure secure, efficient, and innovative development within the rapidly evolving DeFi ecosystem.

Job description

Uniswap Labs is a core contributor to the Uniswap Protocol, the world's largest DEX, with over $4 trillion in volume across 17 chains. It builds products that help millions access the protocol, including the Uniswap Web App, Wallet, and Trading API. Uniswap Labs is also the primary technical provider for Unichain, a DeFi-native Ethereum Layer 2 built to be the home for liquidity across chains.
When you join Uniswap, you become part of a team that's reshaping the way value flows on the internet.
Our platform team plays a critical role in ensuring our products are scalable, secure, and efficient. We are looking for a Backend Engineer to help build and maintain the shared services that power our ecosystem.
We are headquartered in SoHo in New York City, and this role has the option to be partially or fully remote.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain backend systems that support all shared services at Uniswap Labs.
  • Write high quality and well tested code, and review code from other team members.
  • Provide guidance and technical leadership to peers in navigating architectural and coding tradeoffs.
  • Take charge of driving strategic technical initiatives across engineering pods that impact the entire engineering organization.
  • Improve developer productivity and system reliability through automation and best practices.

Requirements
  • 6+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript, Go, or Rust,
  • Excellent coding skills, deep understanding of AWS cloud constructs and architecture, algorithms, and strong debugging capabilities.
  • Design, build, and maintain a large-scale production system on the cloud, ensuring smooth operation and high availability.
  • Be able to build systems from the ground up, in a 0→1 fashion.
  • A passion for building scalable, reliable systems that enable high-quality feature development.

Nice to have:
  • Experience or a strong interest in infrastructure-as-code tools (Pulumi is a plus).
  • Experience with distributed systems, authentication, and developer tooling.
  • Degree in computer science
  • Background in blockchain or DeFi
  • Love for unicorns :)
