Job description

The Process Engineering Technician will be responsible for the evaluation and correction of welding, assembly and testing processes, development/implementation of preventative counter measures and process improvement that are aimed at eliminating variability & validating process innovations. They will ensure the development and deployment of process standards, reduced set-up procedures, first piece “Poke-Yokes”, operator checklists/guidelines, and best practices implementation. Furthermore, they will support equipment evaluation, tooling improvements, programs process enhancements, improved reliability and focus on daily plant and process improvements for the elimination of all manufacturing process issues.
The main missions of the role are:
Plant Processes
  • Drive continuous improvement of processes, tooling, and equipment
  • Support equipment/robotics, production methods, TPM, Safety and Machine Safeguarding,
  • Focus on parts, processes, and suppliers to solve problems related to their assigned GAP’s
  • Assist in analyzing, validating, and implementing process modifications, program improvements, root causes of micro stoppages, and other sources of downtime and scrap
  • Input data for a Maintenance or Tooling local database for all manufacturing processes. As well as tooling and equipment supporting capacity management
  • Make necessary corrections and running adjustments to maintain maximum production and quality, while minimizing scrap and rework.
  • Provide technical data to capture the status of targeted equipment and contribute to the plant’s recommendations for resolving process issues
  • Participate in QRCI’s to resolve tooling, process and equipment follow-up and validations
  • Support reception, installation and start-up of tooling and equipment
  • Ensure application of 13 Mandatory Rules/Safety Laws, 7 Quality Basics and process standards.
  • Identify best practices for their expertise network for deployment throughout NAO
  • Train Set up Technicians and Trainees on the safe operation of production equipment.
  • Train Set Up Technicians and Trainees in proper methods of tooling, fixturing and guarding changes; adjustment, repair and maintenance of assigned equipment.
  • Train Set Up Technicians and Trainees in the proper methods of set-up on pipe benders, pipe end finishing and tubing pipe.
Program Processes
  • Ensure that checklists and guidelines for all bending processes are applied
  • Validate Operator training, Magic Square audits, and technology choices
  • Ensure process capabilities are consistent with product manufacturability
  • Define process solutions and ensure that process standards are applied
  • Follow-up alternative process recommendations, support prototype tooling & fixtures build (when applicable)
  • Support the Identification of available capacity
  • Release tooling and equipment validations after processes have been modified; update all changed process specifications
  • Support the Engineers within the Gladstone organization during Run-at-rates, PPAP’s, new supplier validations and continued optimizations
  • Identify tooling and equipment suppliers and gather data to support their establishment as NAO approved suppliers
  • Validate tooling and equipment reception
  • All other duties assigned

Generic Processes
  • Define and maintain checklists and guidelines for manufacturing processes
  • Prepare process inputs and participate to the M3 gate review of the product innovation process.
  • Develop and improve processes related to his/her field of expertise.
  • Develop POKE-YOKES in cooperation with equipment, processes, etc…
  • Define, maintain and improve process standards in their field of expertise (tooling, equipment)
  • Ensure that process standards are applied (plants and programs)
  • Identify and validate best practices in their perimeter
  • Integrate best practices in process guidelines and/or standards
  • Promote and ensure deployment of best practices
  • Assist in the maintenance and updating the database of tooling and equipment related to their field of expertise
  • Develop a NAO expertise network for development, deployment and implementation of process improvements and innovations
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have/be:
Minimum education level: Associate’s in Manufacturing Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.  
Experience:
  • Prefer minimum 5 years of experience in automotive exhaust manufacturing/assembly
  • Welding, Assembly, Robotics, TPM, SMED, tooling & fixture technical problem solving expertise.
