POSITION TITLE: CORPS AIDE

SUPERVISOR: CORPS OFFICERS

STATUS: REGULAR NON-EXEMPT, FULL-TIME

PAY RATE: $21.53

GENERAL STATEMENT:

JOB OBJECTIVES:

The Corps Aide is the ministry team member responsible in aiding in the day-to-day corps operations and social service programs. 50% of the role will be administering our social service programs and 50% will be assisting in the day-to-day operations of the corps.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provide direct social services to the community via our social services programs and assist in the day-to-day operations of the corps office.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • College degree preferred; high school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in social work or related field preferred.

REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:

  • Experience and/or strong interest in community outreach, organization, and community capacity development, including working on community coalitions.
  • Must have an interest and ability to work with people and clients of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Ability to collaborate on complex social issues with families and communities.
  • Ability to competently handle, prioritize and be self-directed in managing workload and participate as a member of the ministry team.
  • An understanding of and willingness to abide by The Salvation Army’s mission, philosophy, and practices.
  • Ability to understand and comply with The Salvation Army policies in regard to disbursement of funding.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity in matters relating to client services, maintaining the integrity of information on each client.
  • Familiarity with Salvation Army policies and procedures, or ability to learn sources and guidelines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Ability to learn new databases such but not limited to, Wellsky client-based software, corps management and turbostats.
  • Valid State of Washington driver's license and ability to pass Salvation Army driving criteria including a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).

MAJOR RESPONSIBILTIES INCLUDE:

  • Represent the Salvation Army and the corps with initial contact for individuals. Answer and/or respond to all telephone calls and emails regarding social services and corps office needs. Be the first point of contact for individuals entering the Olympia Corps building.
  • Interview, screen and make appointments for those seeking assistance.
  • Provide material assistance, information, and referrals to clients as needed.
  • Complete all financial deposits with assistance of corps officer.
  • Assist in processing invoices for the corps through AP workflow.
  • Assist Corps officers with corps events throughout the year.
  • Collaborate actively with other service providers in the County.
  • Assist corps officers during the Christmas season with such items as Angel Tree applications, toy drives, toy distribution, and kettle fundraising support.
  • Input data into the corps management system.
  • Complete monthly statistics for the corps.
  • Assist in the weekly deposit.
  • Manage all corps family social services programs primarily the energy assistance program for clients.
  • Assist corps officers with summer camp recruitment, sign up and transportation.
  • Provide assistance with with general office work.
  • Coordinate client requests for spiritual assistance and pastoral care with the corps officers.
  • Input all social services data into Wellsky and keep all client records up to date and in compliance with program and grant requirements.
  • Complete all necessary weekly and monthly reports for all corps social services programs.
  • Assist Corps officers with seasonal outreach programs such as the back-to-school distributions, back to school drives, the old navy shopping spree and any other programs that are developed of that nature.
  • Assist corps officers with the management of the corps Facebook page and social media.
  • May be required to drive a TSA vehicle (minivan) occasionally to pick up donations or toys.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Life and Voluntary Options. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months’ service time.

Paid Vacation:

  • Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
  • Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
  • Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months’ service time.
