Job description

Description Join a welcoming team, make a difference in your community, and build valuable experience in youth development, recreation, teamwork, and leadership. Andover Youth Services provides recreational, educational, social, and leadership opportunities that help young people build skills, form positive relationships, and feel connected to their community. Seasonal staff work alongside experienced AYS team members to support activities ranging from cooking and art to sports, games, enrichment, day trips, and special events.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people, brings energy and creativity to a team, and wants hands-on experience in youth development, recreation, education, athletics, or community programming. Work Schedule Hours are generally available Monday through Friday from school dismissal until approximately 6:00 p.m. Additional hours may be available for early-release days, family-engagement activities, special events, school vacations, and summer programming

Specific schedules are based on program needs and employee availability. Responsibilities Welcome participants and help create a safe, supportive, inclusive, and engaging environment. Model respectful and responsible behavior and build positive relationships with youth.

Lead or assist with recreational, educational, creative, athletic, social, and leadership activities based on experience and assignment. Assist with participant arrival, attendance, check-in, dismissal, and transitions between activities. Maintain active supervision and reinforce AYS expectations and facility rules consistently and respectfully.

Prepare program spaces, materials, and equipment before activities and assist with cleanup and breakdown afterward. Support day trips and excursions, including attendance checks, group supervision, transitions, and established safety procedures. Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free program spaces.

Respond to injuries, incidents, behavioral concerns, and emergencies in accordance with established procedures and promptly notify supervisory staff. Communicate professionally and respectfully with youth, families, coworkers, and community partners. Communicate regularly with AYS staff regarding participant needs, incidents, schedule changes, and safety concerns.

Participate in required orientation, meetings, and training. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Specific minimum-age requirements may vary by program assignment.

Experience working with youth through employment, volunteering, coaching, tutoring, camps, mentoring, school activities, recreation, education, childcare, or a similar setting is preferred but not required unless specified for the assignment. Dependable, responsible, patient, and able to work effectively as part of a team. Ability to communicate positively and appropriately with youth, families, and coworkers from different backgrounds.

Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and protect confidential participant information. CPR and First Aid certification preferred, or willingness and ability to obtain certification if required. A valid driver's license may be required for assignments that include driving responsibilities.

Must successfully complete all applicable pre-employment requirements and required program training. Supplemental Information Physical Requirements The essential functions of this position require the ability to: Remain active and move throughout program areas for extended periods. Participate in and supervise indoor and outdoor activities, as appropriate.

Work in active recreation spaces, at off-site locations, and in variable summer weather, depending on the assignment. Bend, reach, and move between activity areas while supervising youth. Occasionally lift and carry program supplies, materials, and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Observe participants and respond promptly to safety concerns and emergency situations. Communicate clearly and effectively with youth, families, and staff. The Town of Andover is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
