The Town of Danvers is seeking a forward-thinking, solution driven Town Accountant to perform professional, supervisory work in the day-to-day management of the Accounting Department. The Town Accountant maintains and audits the municipal accounting system and administers internal/external financial reporting in discharging the duties of the office.

What You'll Do:
As Town Accountant, you will perform highly responsible duties requiring independent judgment and initiative in problem solving, organizing, and directing the work of the department; and in the enforcement of federal, state and local laws, Town Bylaws, departmental policies, and with adherence to professional accounting standards.

What You Bring:

An ideal candidate brings:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in accounting, of which at least three (3+) years are in municipal accounting; three years of progressively responsible experience in personnel management; Master's degree preferred.
  • Ability to be bonded required.
  • Massachusetts Certified Governmental Accountant certification and Certified Public Accountant certification preferred or ability to obtain within 3 years of hire.
  • Must be fully committed to providing service excellence to every person who visits, works, or resides in the Town of Danvers by embodying the organization's five core values: inclusion, integrity, accountability, positivity, and collaboration.
Hours and Compensation
  • 35 hours/week
  • Monday-Wednesday: 8:00 AM-4:00 PM; Thursday: 8:00 AM-7:00 PM: Friday: 8:00 AM-12:00 PM
  • Management PayScale range of $101,511.90 to $139,525.05; hiring rate DOQ.
  • Position also receives an additional stipend of $1,500 annually for serving ex-officio on the Danvers Retirement Board.
  • Excellent benefits: health, dental, vision, pension system, Town match to 457 plan, municipal retirement plan, and generous paid time off
