Job description

The Teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with Johnson Ferry Christian Academy policies.

A JFCA teacher is expected to lead with a love for Christ, have a desire for every student to discover God's purposes in their lives and a personal passion to prepare students for life.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures, including a paper or electronic gradebook.
  • Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process never assuming that students know more than they actually do.
  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis including the posting of assignments and other important information in a timely manner.
  • Effectively communicate class assignments and expectations.
  • Sets time to be available for student or parent questions and response in a timely manner.
  • Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
  • Models spiritual maturity in leading students towards Christ and then spiritual growth.
  • Ensure that classroom discussion of secondary doctrine should be on an informative, non-partisan level. Teachers must be careful not to speak to the students in a manner that would cause offense to the parents and can accurately present all sides of an issue. The teacher should encourage the students to follow up any questions they have with their parents and pastor
  • Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
  • Demonstrates gains in student performance.
  • Participates in training and presentations about online teaching and Edline.
  • Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
    All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established as part of the annual performance planning process or as the result of organizational planning.
  • 24-28 hours/week expected.

  • Teacher is knowledgeable about the subject, enthusiastic about teaching, and can present the material in a way that helps students learn.

  • Works independently with little direct supervision while having the ability to work as part of a team

Degree/Work Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum BA in Education or BA/BS and 6 professional education credits or 180 continuing education units;
  • Masters Degree preferred;
  • Additional specific requirements will be provided and depend on the position;
  • Previous classroom teaching experience is preferred and may be required.
  • Eligible for an Association for Christian Schools International (ACSI) teacher certificate.
  • JFCA has a partnership with Truett McConnell University providing class instruction at the college level. JFCA employs the teachers, but they must meet TMU requirements.

  • Holds tightly to a similar set of beliefs as outlined in the Statement of Faith
