Job description

TMG's Operator II must be able to operate all types of heavy civil equipment safely, productively, and efficiently. This position requires grading, excavating, loading, hauling, placing, and compacting of earth, sand, or aggregate to facilitate the completion of various civil earthwork projects.
Scope of Operator II Position
Operates TMG equipment in support of TMG's team effort to successfully complete various civil projects that meet or exceed the company's performance standards. Position reports to Civil Foreman or Superintendent.
Essential Functions of Operator II Position
Must be physically fit to perform manual labor in all types of environments and conditions, including heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.). Regularly required to sit, must be able to use hands to fingers, handle or feel, and verbally communicate and listen. Other physical requirements include standing, walking, climbing or balancing, and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Specific vision abilities required by the position include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Responsibilities
  • Operate any or all of TMG's core equipment, which includes bulldozers, compactors, excavators, loaders, and graders, in a proficient and safe manner;
  • Maintain all equipment to the highest TMG standards; grease and inspect equipment daily, inspect frame structure and hydraulic system, be familiar with the equipment layout, follow refueling procedures, be knowledgeable about emergency devices, practice safe driving, and keep recordkeeping up-to-date.
  • Comply with the operations manual, safety manual, and all other relevant reference documents;
  • Work cooperatively with the crew to accomplish tasks.
  • Perform manual tasks, such as working with a shovel, as required;
  • Maintain the work area(s) in a clean and orderly manner on a continuous basis;
  • Consistently report for work on time and in appropriate attire;
  • Participate in training and other forms of development to strengthen technical, safety, and other required skills.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5-10 years of directly related experience in the civil construction field;
  • Must be physically fit to perform manual labor in all types of environments and conditions, including heavy lifting (in excess of 50 lbs.);
  • Must have layout skills, ability to read blueprints, and be able to maintain grades;
  • The ability to comprehend and follow specific operations and safety instructions;
  • Interpersonal competencies that include a drive for results, the need for closure, effective oral communication skills, organization, planning, trust, respect, being dependable, and cooperation.
  • Must be able to lift and handle 50-pound objects;
  • Must be fully mobile and capable of walking job sites, climbing ladders and stairs multiple times daily to inspect work, direct subcontractors and TMG's own field forces, and assure safety and quality control;
  • Must have a clean driving record to facilitate getting materials from suppliers when necessary.
  • OSHA safety training and a current First Aid and CPR certificate;
  • Should have erosion and sediment control knowledge;
  • Current and valid driver's license with a clean driving record; and
  • Must be able to be issued a badge to work at the project sites that have this requirement.
