Description ****Applicants seeking part-time seasonal work with the University of Hawai'i at M?noa may apply for Exempt Hourly Non-Civil Service positions at the Athletics Department. Due to the temporary nature of these appointments, Exempt Hourly Non-Civil employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave/night differential)

Title: Head Usher (Exempt Hourly Non-Civil Service) Hiring Unit: UHM Athletics Location: Lower Campus Athletic Facilities Date Posted: June 14, 2026 Closing Date: Continuous recruitment until programmatic needs are met. Review of applications to begin June 22, 2026. Salary: $18.12/hour Full Time/Part Time:Part Time Work Schedule: Must be available to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays

Schedule will be vary depending on events scheduled at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa athletic venues. Temporary/Permanent: Temporary Other Conditions: Maximum hours allowed per week is 19.75, continuation dependent upon satisfactory performance, availability of funds and program needs Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Stan Sheriff Center (SSC) Manager or designee the Head Usher will be assigned to work at various events at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa athletic venues. Usher Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities This position is responsible for the supervision of the student assistant usher employees in a designated area and providing security as well as informational services to the public

Coordinate with ushers in preparing and securing identified areas. Coordinate unlocking and locking of doors within the event facility and secured areas. Monitor venue vomitory doors ensuring that the doors are closed and appropriately secure during all events.

Assist in coordination of lost and found items. Assist guests by ensuring that they have an enjoyable and safe experience by providing assistance in finding their seats, first aid office and assist with directions to restrooms, concessions and merchandising areas. Monitor the crowd for guests causing disturbance or doing anything in violation of the facility's policies.

Assists guests with accessibility issues. Monitor entrances to restricted areas. Keep unauthorized people out of these areas.

Oversee usher crew assigned to secured areas such as vomitories and emergency exits and ensuring that only credentialed personnel access authorized areas. Coordinate the inspection of the area restrooms and clearing of spectators at the end of all events. Gate Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities This position is responsible for supervision of student assistant usher employees in the area of scanning authorized tickets and passes upon entering the arena.

Coordinate with student assistant usher employees in preparing and securing turnstile gates. Position personnel at each turnstile in designated areas. Oversee the scanning of tickets and special passes as required.

Scan tickets at gate and ensure that no prohibited items are brought into the facility. Available to resolve any challenges or situations that may arise. Be knowledgeable and enforce venue policies and procedures regarding re-entry, contraband, wrong tickets, etc.

Coordinate the opening of gates and the mass exiting after each event. General Supervisory Duties: This position is responsible for providing and performing various miscellaneous services and duties to the public and within the venue. Supervisors is responsible to file reports of any accidents, damage, suspicious or unsafe conditions and report it to the Event Manager.

Distribute and receive keys that were issued to student assistant usher employees in the performance of his/her duties before and after each event. Resolves any problems brought to your attention by student assistant usher employees. Operate a two-way radio to receive and transmit instructions from supervisors to subordinates.

Other Duties: Know, recognize, and comply with laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the University of Hawaii and its employees, and the rules of the NCAA and affiliated conferences as now constituted or as may be amended in the future. Immediately advises the Director of Athletics or designee if you have reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees, students, or others, have occurred or will occur. Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications: Some experience in ushering or related experience. Physically able to climb stairs. Ability to walk, stand, and/or moving on hard surfaces for long periods of time.

Working conditions at times are loud, dark or crowded spaces. Ability to read, write and speak English clearly. Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to fill in forms and submit written reports as required. Ability to work independently and with others. Ability to be cordial and tactful in manner.

Ability to interpret and enforce rules. Ability to understand the basic guest service principles including ADA accessibility best practices. Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.

Ability to deal with disorderly and impaired guests. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
