Who are we hiring?

As an Usher at the Chicago Theatre, you will provide positive guest/client experiences at live events. An Usher is responsible for greeting the guest, directional assistance through various entry/departure points, line management, assisting with emergency or medical situations, and answering frequent questions regarding the event or the Chicago Theatre.

What will you do?

  • As an Usher at the Chicago Theatre, you will promote positive guest/client experiences during the beginning (ingress), middle of event and show departure (egress).
  • Welcome guests to The Chicago Theatre and provide wayfinding assistance.
  • Check aisles, rows, and seats prior to the house opening to ensure cleanliness. Notify Supervisor of any issues prior to opening. 
  • Check designated area to be sure all emergency exit pathways are clear and accessible prior to opening. Notify Supervisor prior to opening with any concerns.
  • Scan patrons' tickets and report any invalid tickets to a Supervisor.
  • Support lobby activities and ancillary activations including but not limited to VIP packages, soundchecks, and meet and greets.
  • Guide patrons to their seats efficiently and answer guest questions. 
  • Assist third party vendors with any necessary set-up prior to ingress. 
  • Turn in any Lost and Found items to the Supervisor immediately. 
  • Communicate any building deficiencies, security concerns, or safety issues to a Supervisor. 
  • Ensure event specific details and policies are adhered to by guests.
  • Be prepared to take an active role in Emergency Operations procedures (evacuation plan) through on-going training and drills. 
  • Aid other departments as needed.
  • Provide exceptional experiences for our guests, partners, and team members, including by adhering to our appearance and presentation guidelines while on-site.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Previous Usher, Ticket Taker, or Guest Relations experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills. 
  • Ability to work with large crowds. 
  • Must be able to tolerate and work in a loud, fast paced environment. 
  • General computer proficiency and email communications are required.
  • Maintain a professional manner, presence, and appearance always while on premises/duty. 
  • All candidates must be available to work 75% of the monthly show schedule (No guarantee of minimum hours). 
  • Must be comfortable with heights (working on high floor) and navigating steep steps and inclines. 
  • Must be willing to rotate to various positions within a shift. 

Special Requirements

  • Must be receptive to working outside in inclement weather and extreme temperatures.
  • Must be comfortable operating a limited mobility lift.
  • Must be comfortable with heights.
  • Must be knowledgeable to use a handheld PDA.
  • Ability to carry, lift, push, pull up to 30 lbs;
  • Must be able to traverse steps and be able to walk and stand long periods of time
  • Must be able to work within an environment with loud noises and everchanging visuals.
  • Must be willing to rotate to various posts within a shift as needed, based on business need.
  • Ability to stand and move about the theater throughout the duration of the shift.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, have split days off, work weekends and holidays in a 24 X 7 environment.
