Description
The SVPA Event Usher will assist the School of Visual and Performing Arts (Music, Theatre & Dance, and Art & Design) in creating a welcoming, safe, and professional environment for audiences at performances, concerts, recitals, and other events. This role focuses on guest services, event support, and audience management to enhance the overall event experience.
Examples of Duties
Duties Include:
  • Greet and assist patrons upon arrival, providing directions and event information.
  • Scan tickets and manage audience seating.
  • Distribute programs and maintain organized lobby and seating areas.
  • Support event setup and teardown, including light lifting and moving of chairs or tables.
  • Enforce venue and event policies to ensure safety and a positive guest experience.
  • Assist guests with accessibility needs and answer questions courteously and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with event staff, student workers, and faculty to ensure seamless event execution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by SVPA Event Operations Manager.

Typical Qualifications
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be a current University of Central Missouri student in good academic standing.
Experience:
  • Energetic, reliable, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills. Comfortable interacting with guests of all ages.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Federal Work-Study eligible students preferred and given priority consideration.

Supplemental Information
Working Hours:
  • Evenings and weekends, based on the SVPA event schedule.
  • Scheduling varies throughout the semester with heavier workloads during peak event periods.
