Job description

SEWS – Farmington Hills, Michigan Office. This is a hybrid position that requires working at least four days in the office each week, with flexibility to work off‑site.

Release Engineer III Basic Purpose

Design and release wire harnesses for North American programs with knowledge of General Motors workflows and design practices. The role supports new OEM RFQ projects and assists in ongoing and upcoming vehicle pilots and launches in Michigan at Tier 1 suppliers and assembly plants. The position demands adherence to aggressive timing schedules for upcoming ICE and REEV programs.

Responsibilities
  1. Strong knowledge and experience with GM EDS development process and wire harness drawing release is preferred. Familiarity with GM's design practices and specifications is also valuable.
  2. Support ongoing new OEM harness program development through to product realization (internal and external). Perform drawing review, spec change requests, VA/VE, workability or quality improvement, maintain product file, define design levels and freeze schedule, develop trial run activity, and facilitate change through established processes.
  3. Create high‑quality engineering deliverables related to vehicle electrical systems.
  4. Identify, track and resolve design open issues; clearly communicate outcomes to affected parties. Detail design changes or quality caution points to assembly and planning sections. Serve as primary responder to customers regarding design change implementation and cost liability.
  5. Participate and support cross‑functional team meetings. Document, track and distribute lessons learned.
  6. Interface directly with customer PMT, PAT, engineers, and launch team.
  7. Interface and coordinate with SEWS division managers, sales, business planning, procurement, engineering, design, quality, validation, and coordinators.
  8. Support manufacturing design reviews, master sample reviews, tooling reviews, and special assembly instructions for wiring systems. Track readiness of suppliers for customer events. Attend manufacturing locations for design evaluation activities.
  9. Research, gather, collect, analyze, organize and summarize specifications, requirements, competitive benchmarking related to vehicle electrical distribution systems.
  10. Other assignments as assigned from time to time.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Design Release Engineer.
  • 3+ years of wire harness EDS engineering experience or equivalent; 2D and 3D experience preferred.
  • Intermediate Catia, Mentor XC and strong Excel experience.
  • Familiarity with product launch and program management.
  • Self‑directed individual with solid background in failure analysis.
  • Strong customer interface skills, good English language skills (written and spoken), and good time management skills.
