What are tides and what causes them?

Tides are the regular rise and fall of sea levels caused primarily by the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun on Earth's oceans. The moon's gravity has the strongest effect, pulling water toward it and creating a bulge, which we experience as high tide. On the opposite side of the Earth, another high tide forms due to inertia. The areas between these bulges experience low tide. These tidal cycles typically occur twice a day and can be affected by the positions of the sun and moon relative to Earth.

Job description

About Tides Mental Health (TidesMentalHealth.com):

Founded in 2023, Tides Mental Health is a growing private practice dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate mental health care to individuals, couples, and families. What began in Chicago is now expanding into surrounding communities as we open new locations to meet increasing demand for accessible, thoughtful care.

At Tides, we believe therapy works best when clinicians are well-supported, clients feel genuinely seen, and care is delivered with intention. Our mission is to serve as a safe harbor for healing and growth, transforming mental health care through compassion, collaboration, accessibility, and creativity.

As we grow beyond the city, we are building small, values-aligned clinical teams to help launch and shape new locations from the ground up. This full-time role offers a unique opportunity to be part of that early foundation—contributing not only clinically, but also to culture, systems, and the overall client experience.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Full-Time Licensed Clinical Therapist (LCSW, LCPC, or LMFT) who is passionate about delivering exceptional care and excited to grow with a fast-evolving practice. This role is ideal for clinicians looking for a stable, full-time position while also enjoying the energy and opportunity of a growing organization.

You will play a meaningful role in helping establish and grow a new Tides location, working closely with a supportive leadership team and fellow clinicians to build a strong, collaborative clinical culture from day one.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide compassionate, evidence-based psychotherapy to a diverse client population, tailoring treatment to each client’s unique needs and goals

  • Maintain a consistent, full-time clinical caseload aligned with Tides’ standards of care

  • Collaborate with clients, families (when appropriate), and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated, high-quality treatment

  • Contribute to the development of thoughtful, personalized treatment experiences, including the intentional use of evolving technologies and therapeutic approaches

  • Participate in building and sustaining Tides’ clinical culture, particularly as part of a new location launch team

  • Assist in developing and refining best practices that strengthen the client-therapist relationship and overall client experience

  • Support occasional outreach or marketing-related efforts (e.g., community engagement, provider visibility) to help establish a strong and diverse client base in a new market

Qualifications:

  • Active clinical licensure in the state of Illinois (LCSW, LCPC, or LMFT required for full-time role)

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field from an accredited program

  • Demonstrated proficiency in evidence-based therapeutic modalities

  • Strong clinical judgment, interpersonal skills, and professional communication

  • Alignment with Tides’ mission, values, and client-centered philosophy of care

  • Passionate about participating in an entrepreneurial, growing startup environment.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Full-time employment with competitive compensation, with opportunities for growth based on experience, tenure, and role development

  • Healthcare stipend with participation in an ICHRA plan, allowing access to a broad range of health insurance plan options

  • Competitive paid time off (PTO) for full-time team members

  • Supportive leadership, collaborative team culture, and room for professional growth

Tides Mental Health is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to creating an inclusive, supportive environment and welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences.

This is an opportunity to join a growing, mission-driven practice and make a meaningful impact—on clients, communities, and the future of mental health care. Apply today to join Tides Mental Health.
