Responsibilities
Summary:
The Intern, Counseling may be involved in all aspects of the client's treatment. Must be able to deal with clients in a caring and compassionate manner but react firmly when circumstances warrant.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• The Intern, Counseling maintains a case load of 1 - 5 clients.
• Counsels' clients through weekly 50-minute meetings.
• Maintains up-to-date client files.
• Acknowledging referrals and placing them in the EMR.
• Case conferences with Mental Health Professional and LCSW.
• Crisis intervention as needed.
• The Intern, Counseling oversees assigned group counseling sessions.
• Handles crisis interventions as needed.
• Oversees and participates in recreational activities.
• Communicates (letter, telephone, meeting) with probation or parole departments.
• Referrals to Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), Post Intensive Care (PIC) clinics as well as medical and social Service agencies when required for client.
• The Intern, Counseling plans discharge activities with Mental Health Professional and clients.
• Prepares monthly statistical reports.
• Have prepared materials for all sessions.
• Discharge summaries of caseload.
• The Intern, Counseling participates in all client related meetings.
• Participates in daily education with Mental Health Professional.
• Prepares client charts and updates.
• The Intern, Counseling completes knowledge of written assignments and proper presentations to clients.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent and must be pursuing BSW, BA (counseling), MSW, LSW, licensing.
  • Required to complete 100 hours during the course of at study GEO MHCS. Of this, 40/50 hours can include direct individual and group counseling services and 60/50 indirect hours performing other activities related to the student's work at GEO MHCS (e.g., scheduling, notes, meetings, preparation for clients).
  • Individual clinical supervision (face-to-face) for MSW students will be conducted by a LCSW. BA, BSW student's supervision will be conducted by an LSW.
  • Candidates should have some knowledge or experience in Individual and Group counseling process. Candidates should have knowledge of local and county social service agencies. Candidate must have good to excellent written and oral communications skills. The counselor-intern must serve as an appropriate role model and function as part of a team.
