Job description

Function "Join the City of Hampton team. As a proud V3 (Virginia Values Veterans) employer and a designated Military Spouse-Friendly Employer, we are committed to supporting veterans and military spouses. The purpose of this class is to develop and manage the social media initiatives for the Hampton Police Division

This job works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings. What You'll Be Doing: Plans and implements technology-based strategies to assist the Hampton Police Division in communicating information regarding the community, employee, and public relations; provides guidance in the areas of social networking and community relations, marketing, media relations, and official event planning as required; develops plans and programs to meet specific needs. Creates and reworks content for various social media sites.

Interacts w/ social media users as a key voice of the Hampton Police Division. Monitors platforms periodically during evening and weekend hours; responding to citizens as necessary. As needed, prepare presentations or videos to promote the Hampton Police Division at the direction of the Chief of Police or his designee.

May also be required to accompany and assist the Chief at presentations in the community. Performs other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in in Web Development, Marketing, Graphics, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Media or a related field required.

A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position. Requires four (4) years of experience in social media and Web or blog site management; good knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and directives applicable to governmental public information or closely related experience. Additional Requirements: Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.

Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion. Requires effective communication with internal and external customers. Duties may be performed outside normal working hours.

Requires some local travel. The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules. Click here for the complete job description.
