Opportunity Summary

We are a PE-backed, growing space technology company developing advanced propulsion systems for in-space applications. The team is building out high-performance test infrastructure to support rapid development and validation of propulsion hardware across component, subsystem, and full system levels. As Director of Propulsion Test Operations, you will own all aspects of propulsion testing, including facility operations, test execution, safety, and team leadership. This role is responsible for scaling test capabilities, ensuring high-quality data output, and enabling fast, reliable iteration as systems move from development into flight-ready hardware.

The team operates with a strong emphasis on hands-on development, integrated testing, and execution speed.


Job Duties

  • Lead all propulsion test operations across component, subsystem, and full system testing
  • Own planning and execution of test campaigns, ensuring alignment with technical and program objectives
  • Oversee test readiness reviews, hazard analyses, and post-test data evaluations
  • Manage configuration control for test hardware, instrumentation, and facility systems
  • Direct operations of propulsion test facilities including propellant handling systems, control rooms, and ground support equipment
  • Plan and execute facility upgrades, maintenance, and expansion to meet evolving test needs
  • Build, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and operators
  • Establish training programs for safe handling of hazardous systems and test execution procedures
  • Develop and maintain test documentation including procedures, safety protocols, and reporting standards
  • Partner with engineering, manufacturing, and program teams to align test execution with development timelines
  • Support business development efforts through test planning, cost inputs, and technical proposals
  • Oversee data acquisition, processing, and reporting to internal and external stakeholders
  • Identify operational risks and implement mitigation strategies and contingency plans


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience leading propulsion or hardware test operations teams
  • Experience developing and executing test plans, procedures, and safety documentation
  • Strong ability to interpret engineering requirements, drawings, and technical standards
  • Experience managing hazardous test environments and enforcing safety protocols
  • Proven experience leading teams, including hiring, mentorship, and performance management
  • Track record of managing cost, schedule, and technical performance of test programs
  • Strong communication skills across technical teams and leadership stakeholders
  • Ability to operate in fast-paced, high-pressure environments


Preferred Experience

  • Experience with spacecraft or in-space propulsion systems
  • Background working in government or commercial propulsion test facilities
