WHO WE ARECalifornia Rural Legal Assistance, Inc. (CRLA) is an anti-poverty law firm that dismantles unjust systems through community lawyering in California’s historically rural areas. We work with people priced out of private legal representation so they can uphold civil rights in housing, employment, health, and public education. Through our 17 Rural Justice Centers, communities can access a broad range of legal tools, including direct legal services, place-based advocacy to expand equity in civic institutions, and specialized litigation to advance civil rights.

The Testing Coordinator will play a critical role in the day-to-day operations of CRLA’s Testing Initiative, ensuring the effective coordination and execution of testing activities. This position is responsible for recruiting, training, and managing testers, overseeing the logistics of testing operations, and compiling and analyzing data to support investigations and advocacy efforts. Working closely with the Testing Manager, the Testing Coordinator will help ensure the quality and efficiency of testing projects, while maintaining ethical standards and adherence to CRLA’s broader objectives.

Responsibilities

Testing Operations Coordination

  • Oversee the logistical coordination of testing assignments, ensuring timely and accurate execution of testing protocols.
  • Organize and schedule testing activities, including selecting test locations, coordinating tester participation, and managing test timelines.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for testers, providing guidance, support, and communication throughout the testing process.
  • Ensure testers are well-prepared by facilitating training sessions on testing protocols, legal frameworks, and ethical standards.
  • Maintain clear communication with the Testing Manager to ensure alignment with overall program goals and objectives.

Tester Recruitment & Management

  • Recruit and onboard testers, ensuring that they meet the qualifications and standards required for effective testing.
  • Develop and maintain a pool of qualified testers, including outreach, recruitment events, and networking within communities.
  • Provide ongoing support to testers, addressing concerns, offering feedback, and ensuring that testers are consistently following procedures.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with testers to monitor their engagement and ensure they adhere to testing protocols.

Data Management & Reporting

  • Collect, compile, and organize testing data, ensuring that it is accurate and easily accessible for analysis.
  • Collaborate with the Testing Manager to analyze test results, identifying patterns of discrimination or other issues of concern.
  • Prepare and submit reports on test findings, ensuring that data is presented clearly and accurately for use in advocacy efforts.
  • Assist with tracking and maintaining test data to ensure compliance with program standards and requirements.

Program Support & Improvement

  • Provide logistical support to the Testing Manager in the development and refinement of testing methodologies.
  • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of testing operations and suggest improvements to enhance program impact.
  • Help implement systems for tracking testing progress and outcomes to support program evaluations and reporting.
  • Contribute to identifying gaps or opportunities for expanding testing operations and improving data collection practices.

Collaboration & External Engagement

  • Collaborate with internal teams, including legal and advocacy staff, to ensure that testing activities align with CRLA’s broader goals and objectives.
  • Communicate with external partners, including advocacy groups and community organizations, to recruit testers and build capacity for testing operations.
  • Participate in external networks focused on fair housing, employment testing, and civil rights to enhance CRLA’s testing work and stay informed about best practices.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of experience in testing coordination, civil rights investigations, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience in recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers or participants.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to manage large sets of data and ensure accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to engage and support diverse groups of testers.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and external stakeholders.
  • Spanish fluency or proficiency in additional languages spoken by CRLA’s client communities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a nonprofit, legal, or advocacy setting, particularly related to civil rights investigations.
  • Knowledge of data management tools or software relevant to testing operations.
  • Familiarity with grant and compliance requirements, especially as they relate to program reporting and data collection.
  • Experience in analyzing and interpreting test data for use in advocacy or legal actions.
