The expected entry pay for this position is $16.00 per hour.

The Superior Court is hiring a translation intern to assist in the translation, editing and proofreading of forms in the Law Library Resource Center (LLRC).

Position Qualifications

Education:

  • Be enrolled and have two years or less remaining to graduating from a graduate or undergraduate program in Spanish, or related Translation/Interpretation program (Spanish/English combination)

OR

  • Have graduated from a graduate or undergraduate program in Spanish, or related Translation/Interpretation program (Spanish/English combination) within the past 12 months

Our Preferred Candidate has:

  • Currently enrolled graduate student or bachelor's degree seeking student with completion of at least two (2) years' college level coursework in Spanish or related Translation/Interpretation program (Spanish/English combination).

  • Six months Spanish translation experience

  • Certification in Spanish translation

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Standard clerical practices related to filing, maintaining records, and research preparation.

Skill in:

  • The use of computer applications including spreadsheets, database and word processing software including Microsoft Excel/Word and Microsoft Teams.

Ability to:

  • Communicate orally and in written form at a native or near native speaker level in both English and Spanish.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  • Operate a computer to enter and/or retrieve data.

Essential Job Tasks

(This is not an all-inclusive list of all duties that may be required; interns will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.)

  • Assist LLRC translator with translation projects.

  • Translate court forms and instructions, self-help material, and other LLRC material from English to Spanish.

  • Proofread and edit translated documents for grammar and accuracy.

  • Research parallel documents.

  • Consult the LLRC glossary, legal dictionaries, bilingual databases, and other translated material.

  • Log and track incoming translation requests and report translation project progress,

  • Organize, save and maintain projects following procedure.

  • Use a computer-assisted translation tool to translate documents, leveraging previously approved translation and terminology.

  • Use translation memory assets by aligning existing Spanish and English document pairs.

  • Give and receive constructive feedback on translated materials to improve translation quality and resources.

  • Term is for the Fall/Spring 2026/2027 school year. Position is funded for 8 hours each week for 32 weeks.

Working conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may need to communicate clearly, perceive details of objects that are close by, and maintain various physical positions for extended periods, such as sitting, standing, or walking. The job may involve using hands for tasks such as typing, handling objects, or operating tools, as well as reaching with hands and arms. Occasionally, the employee may be required to move or lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.

Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate up to the midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.

The Judicial Branch of Arizona in Maricopa County participates in the State Retirement systems ASRS or PSPRS. As such, mandatory membership for all full-time employees includes payroll deducted contributions consistent with each retirement system's requirements. The current contribution rate for ASRS is 12.27% and the current contribution rate for PSPRS is 5.84% and up for the defined contribution plan and 8.82% for the defined benefit plan. Judicial Branch facilities are located throughout Maricopa County. This position may be reassigned to other locations. Assignments will be made based upon the needs of the department.
