Job description

The College of Performing Arts at The New School is seeking a highly qualified Wardrobe Supervisor to join its Performance Operations - Costume Department Staff. The Costume Department is responsible for the creation and delivery of garments as designated and discussed by the Costume Designer, Design Team, and Production Staff. The Wardrobe Supervisor coordinates with designers, shop management, and the production team to guarantee their assigned show meets the overarching theatrical vision while ensuring the safety and support of the students.
The Wardrobe Supervisor is a well-organized, caring, and focused individual with experience in managing groups of people with varying experience in theater and opera production. The Wardrobe Supervisor reports to the Costume Shop Manager and works closely with Production Management and Stage Management for show-related tasks.
This is an overhire position, with opportunities for work to be scheduled as needed by the Costume Department. The position may be renewed pending institutional need and availability of funding.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with designers, creative teams, and production crew
  • Delegate responsibilities to all overhire wardrobe crew members, and supervise overhire workers during shifts in the absence of the Costume Shop Manager
  • Attend Load In and Strike, as well as all technical rehearsals and performances
  • Launder rehearsal and production garments, and manage dry cleaning
  • Cultivate safety and comfort in dressing rooms, quick-change areas, and fitting rooms
  • Uphold professional demeanor in challenging situations, especially where students are present
  • Follow all notes documents, paying close attention to shop management's instructions
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1 year previous Wardrobe Supervision experience
  • 2 years of Theatrical Wardrobe experience
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills appropriate in a professional, educational environment.
  • Basic knowledge of stitching by hand, machine, and serger
  • Team-oriented problem solver with strong collaborative skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in an academic environment/working with students or young professionals.

WORK MODE
  • On-Campus Position - Employees in this position are expected to work on-campus during regularly scheduled work hours. #LI-Onsite
  • Nights and weekends will be required.
  • Costume Shop hours are 10:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday. Schedule adjustments may be made due to external venue time constraints when offsite

Hourly Rate: $30.00/hour
