Job description

The East Penn School District is seeking outstanding applicants for a grant-funded School Psychologist Intern (out of state) position. 

Title: School Psychologist Intern (Out-of-State*)

Status: 10-month Internship (Temporary Professional Position)

Reports Relationships: Director of Special Education, Building Principal

Position Summary: The School Psychologist Intern provides supervised psychological services to students in East Penn School District. Under the direction of a certified School Psychologist, the intern supports the evaluation, identification, and intervention processes for students who are exceptional or thought-to-be exceptional. The intern participates as a member of multidisciplinary teams and contributes to assessment, consultation, counseling, and school-based mental health services while completing internship requirements.  This position is part of our Indicator 11 improvement plan for staffing of school psychologists for timely evaluations.

* For the purposes of this paid internship, an out-of-state student is defined as:

1. A student with primary residency in a state other than Pennsylvania.

        Verification of residency via a valid drivers' license, state ID, or voter registration is required.

        The student may be enrolled in a Pennsylvania College or University. It is not a requirement to   

          be enrolled in a Pennsylvania program to be eligible for the paid internship. 

2. A student with primary residency in Pennsylvania attending an out-of-state school psychology graduate program.

        Verification of residency via a valid drivers' license, state ID, or voter registration is required.

        Verification of the out-of-state school psychology graduate program, via an unofficial 

          transcript, is required.

3. A student with primary residency in a country other than the United States.

        Verification of residency via a FI or permanent resident immigrant visa is required.

        The student may be enrolled in a Pennsylvania College or University. It is not a requirement to 

          be enrolled in a Pennsylvania program to be eligible for the paid internship. 

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in an accredited specialist- or doctoral-level School Psychology program
  • Completion of all prerequisite coursework required for internship
  • Eligibility for PDE School Psychologist Intern Certification
  • Knowledge of psychological assessment, test theory, child development, counseling techniques, and behavioral interventions
  • Understanding of IDEA, Pennsylvania special education regulations, and ethical standards (APA/NASP)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Commitment to a child-centered and culturally responsive approach

Essential Functions

Under supervision, the intern will:

Assessment & Evaluation

  • Review referrals and assist in determining appropriate evaluation procedures
  • Conduct cognitive, academic, behavioral, and social-emotional assessments
  • Analyze and interpret student data
  • Prepare written evaluation reports with recommendations
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and IEP processes
  • Assist with reevaluations and progress monitoring

Consultation & Collaboration

  • Consult with administrators, teachers, parents, and related service providers
  • Support teams in developing and monitoring research-based interventions
  • Assist in using data to inform instructional and behavioral decisions
  • Promote inclusive and culturally responsive practices

Intervention & Mental Health Services

  • Provide individual and group counseling as appropriate
  • Support implementation of positive behavioral supports
  • Assist with crisis prevention and intervention services
  • Help families understand their child's learning and mental health needs

Professional Practice

  • Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics
  • Participate in professional development activities
  • Perform related duties as assigned by administration

Physical / Work Requirements

  • Ability to travel between district buildings
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, organize, and problem-solve
