Bridge Program
Residency Information
Are you a recent graduate seeking additional support as you begin your professional interpreting career? Have recent circumstances limited your ability to fully develop your ASL skills? Perhaps you earned an interpreting degree, stepped away from the field, and are now ready to return. If you are looking for a steady, full-time income while intentionally building your skills in a supportive environment, this opportunity may be a strong fit.
DeafLink is pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications for our Bridge Program, a 10-month paid residency designed to support developing interpreters through structured mentorship, training, and real-world experience. This temporary, full-time position allows participants to focus on professional growth while working alongside experienced mentors in a supportive setting.
The Bridge Program consists of three phases, with openings filled on a rolling basis.
Pre-Requisites
• Preferred graduation from a 4-year Interpreter Training Program (ITP); graduates of 2-year ITPs are encouraged to apply
• Access to appropriate equipment for Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) (laptop, desktop, or tablet)
• Flexible availability, including occasional pager coverage and evening or weekend assignments
• Strong professional demeanor and positive attitude
• Demonstrated professionalism and strong soft skills
• Preferred (not required): successful completion of the EIPA written exam and/or RID written exam
• Willingness to relocate to the Fort Wayne area
Duties and Responsibilities
• Work approximately 38 hours per week; hours may vary based on agency needs
• Accept assignments aligned with current skill level
• Participate in more challenging assignments with mentor or team support
• Engage in a structured mentor/mentee relationship with staff
• Assist with general agency duties and cross-training opportunities
• Attend professional development activities
• Participate in and support Deaf community events
