IMMIGRATION COURT PARALEGAL (EOIR)


Company Description

Position Summary


We are seeking an experienced Immigration Court Paralegal to support attorneys handling removal defense and other matters before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR). This is a full time, on site position in Phoenix, Arizona.


This experienced-level position requires hands on paralegal experience with EOIR cases and U.S. immigration court proceedings. All substantive legal work will be performed under the supervision of a licensed attorney.


Key Responsibilities


• Manage immigration court cases from intake through final disposition while maintaining complete, accurate, and organized physical and electronic files.


• Prepare applications, motions, briefs, declarations, witness lists, exhibit lists, indexes, certificates of service, and supporting documentation for attorney review.


• Prepare complete, indexed, paginated, and court-ready filing packages in compliance with EOIR requirements, court orders, and applicable deadlines.


• Assist with applications for relief, including asylum, withholding of removal, protection under the Convention Against Torture, cancellation of removal, adjustment of status, waivers, and bond matters, as applicable.


• Prepare attorneys and case files for Master Calendar Hearings, Individual Calendar or merits hearings, bond hearings, and other immigration court proceedings.


• Upon receiving a hearing notice, immediately calendar the hearing and related deadlines; review the complete record; identify missing documents and unresolved issues; create follow-up tasks; and deliver a fully organized, court ready file to the attorney well before the hearing.


• Prepare electronic filing packages through the EOIR Courts & Appeals System (ECAS) and ensure compliance with applicable formatting, filing, and service requirements.


• Review and organize electronic Records of Proceedings and monitor hearing dates, court decisions, motions, and case updates through EOIR systems.


• Conduct client interviews and collect biographical information, declarations, identity documents, supporting evidence, and other case materials.


• Coordinate translations, expert reports, medical records, criminal records, country-conditions evidence, and other supporting documentation.


• Communicate professionally with clients, attorneys, immigration court personnel, interpreters, witnesses, experts, and DHS counsel/OPLA, as directed by the supervising attorney.


• Track court deadlines, biometrics requirements, filing fees, hearing notices, attorney assignments, and outstanding client documents.


• Review each filing for completeness, consistency, signatures, translations, supporting evidence, and compliance before submitting it to the attorney for final approval.


• Maintain detailed case notes, update the firm’s case-management system, and promptly communicate important developments to the assigned attorney and team.


Required Qualifications


• Hands-on paralegal experience handling EOIR cases and U.S. immigration court proceedings.


• Working knowledge of EOIR procedures, the Immigration Court Practice Manual, filing deadlines, service requirements, and hearing preparation.


• Experience preparing immigration court applications, motions, briefs, exhibits, evidence packets, and other removal-defense filings.


• Familiarity with ECAS electronic filing procedures and EOIR case-information systems.


• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple urgent cases and strict deadlines.


• Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to identify missing documents, inconsistencies, errors, and potential filing issues.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills.


• Ability to communicate with clients professionally, compassionately, and discreetly.


• Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with professional and ethical standards.


• Proficiency with case management software, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and electronic document preparation.


• Paralegal certificate, associate degree, or equivalent relevant legal experience.


Preferred Qualifications


• Professional fluency in English and Spanish.


• Experience with asylum, cancellation of removal, adjustment of status, bond proceedings, motions to reopen or reconsider, and BIA appeals.


• Experience working in a high-volume immigration law firm.


• Familiarity with preparing attorney ready court files and conducting pre hearing file audits.
