Job description

The Device Tech team is seeking a Solution Architect to lead the technical strategy for on-premise compute and storage infrastructure across Amazon's first, middle, and last mile operations. This role is critical to ensuring our robotics and fulfillment centers have the infrastructure foundation to scale, innovate, and stay ahead of business demand.
You will work across multiple operations teams to deeply understand current and future on-premise compute and storage needs, from edge compute powering robots on the warehouse floor to storage systems supporting increasingly complex AI and robotics workloads. Rather than reacting to capacity gaps or technology limitations, you will proactively identify where infrastructure must evolve, evaluate emerging solutions, and assist with developing forward-looking architectures that set the business up for success.
This is a role for someone who thrives at the intersection of infrastructure engineering, business strategy, and emerging technology. Someone who can translate the rapid evolution of GenAI, robotics, and edge computing into concrete infrastructure decisions today.
Key job responsibilities
- Partner with teams across first, middle, and last mile operations to understand on-premise compute and storage requirements, anticipate future needs, and identify gaps between current capabilities and business direction
- Evaluate market trends, emerging technologies, and vendor solutions in the compute and storage space to inform architectural decisions
- Assist with developing forward-looking infrastructure strategies that proactively address evolving GenAI, robotics, and edge computing demands, ensuring teams are ahead of business expansion rather than reactive to it
- Design reference architectures for on-premise compute and storage that are scalable, cost-effective, and aligned with operational requirement
- Partner with robotics, software, and operations teams to ensure infrastructure solutions
- Assist with new use cases and workload patterns
- Translate complex infrastructure and technology decisions into clear recommendations for leadership audiences
A day in the life
You might start your morning reviewing the edge compute and storage needs of the evolving business use case, assessing whether existing infrastructure patterns apply or a new approach is needed. Mid-morning, you are evaluating a vendor's next-generation storage platform against your roadmap requirements. After lunch, you are in a design review with the Device Tech engineering team, pressure-testing a reference architecture for a new fulfillment center deployment. Later, you are presenting infrastructure strategy recommendations to leadership, connecting technology choices to business outcomes like speed of expansion and cost efficiency. Throughout the day, you are staying current on market trends in compute, storage, and AI infrastructure, ensuring your team is never caught off guard by what's coming next.
Amazon offers a full range of benefits that support you and eligible family members, including domestic partners and their children. Benefits can vary by location, the number of regularly scheduled hours you work, length of employment, and job status such as seasonal or temporary employment. The benefits that generally apply to regular, full-time employees include:
1. Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage
2. Maternity and Parental Leave Options
3. Paid Time Off (PTO)
4. 401(k) Plan
If you are not sure that every qualification on the list above describes you exactly, we'd still love to hear from you! At Amazon, we value people with unique backgrounds, experiences, and skillsets. If you're passionate about this role and want to make an impact on a global scale, please apply!
About the team
The Device Tech team evaluates on-premise compute and storage infrastructure from internal and external providers and builds multi-tenancy solutions on top of it to power Amazon's robotics and fulfillment operations at global scale. We assess how these technologies best fit the needs of Amazon Robotics and deliver scalable, shared solutions that enable sustainable, reliable, and highly available first, middle, and last mile operations. We are a team that values proactive thinking, technical depth, and delivering solutions that keep pace with one of the world's most demanding and fast-moving operational environments.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 8+ years of specific technology domain areas (e.g. software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics) experience
- 3+ years of design, implementation, or consulting in applications and infrastructures experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent
- Experience in compute and storage server architecture and design for large scale applications
- 8+ years of experience in infrastructure architecture, systems engineering, or related technology domains (compute, storage, networking, edge computing)
- 3+ years of experience in solution architecture, technical consulting, or infrastructure design for large-scale environments
- Experience working with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical infrastructure solutions
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- - Experience with edge computing, robotics infrastructure, or fulfillment/logistics environments
- - Knowledge of emerging GenAI compute requirements (GPU/accelerator infrastructure, inference at the edge)
- - Experience with on-premise storage architectures (SAN, NAS, object storage, HCI)
- - Familiarity with server hardware platforms, ARM/x86 architectures, and fleet-scale infrastructure management
- - Experience in capacity planning and total cost of ownership analysis for large device fleets
- - Knowledge of Linux-based systems, containerization, and orchestration platforms in edge environments
- - Experience engaging with senior leadership on technology strategy
