Job description

Job Title: Cloud Platform Engineer III (Senior PostgreSQL & AWS Database Specialist)
Role Overview
An exciting opportunity has opened for an experienced, detail-oriented Cloud Platform Engineer III (Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator) to lead the migration, administration, and optimization of mission-critical database environments across on-premises and AWS cloud platforms. In this role, you will own database performance tuning, security, automated monitoring, backup and recovery, and complex cross-platform migration initiatives.
This is a senior-level technical role requiring deep expertise in PostgreSQL database administration, AWS cloud services, and Infrastructure as Code automation. You will partner closely with application development teams, infrastructure engineers, and cloud architects to design highly available, secure, and performant database architectures. If you excel at driving cloud modernization and executing large-scale database migrations with minimal downtime, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
PostgreSQL Administration & High Availability
• Database Management: Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and maintain enterprise PostgreSQL database environments across production, staging, development, and disaster recovery tiers.
• Performance Tuning: Monitor system health, execute query optimization, analyze execution plans, implement indexing strategies, and manage capacity planning.
• HA & Disaster Recovery: Design, configure, and administer PostgreSQL replication technologies, high-availability (HA) solutions (e.g., Patroni, pgBouncer), and Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR) workflows to meet strict RTO/RPO objectives.
• Security & Compliance: Manage database security controls, user roles, least privilege permissions, access controls, encryption, and audit logging.
AWS Cloud Architecture & Migration
• Cloud Database Engineering: Provision, configure, and manage Amazon RDS PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, and EC2-hosted database instances within AWS.
• Migration Execution: Drive complex database migration projects-including Oracle-to-PostgreSQL and SQL Server-to-PostgreSQL conversions, schema assessments, compatibility analyses, and end-to-end cutovers utilizing AWS DMS, AWS SCT, and native utilities.
• Infrastructure Automation: Automate routine DBA tasks, operational processes, and infrastructure provisioning using Terraform and AWS-native services (AWS Lambda, CloudWatch, Systems Manager, CLI).
Observability & Operational Excellence
• Monitoring & Alerting: Design and implement automated database health checks, proactive monitoring frameworks, and operational dashboards.
• Incident Management: Provide expert-level troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for production incidents, managing on-call rotations and critical database operations.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience Baseline:
oMinimum of 12+ years of overall Database Administration experience.
oMinimum of 8+ years of dedicated PostgreSQL Database Administration experience.
oMinimum of 5+ years of cloud database administration experience (specifically within AWS).
• Technical Mastery:
oProven hands-on experience executing large-scale database migrations (On-Prem PostgreSQL, Oracle, or SQL Server to AWS RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL).
oExpert-level understanding of AWS core architecture, networking, IAM, KMS, and operational best practices.
oStrong proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
oFamiliarity with PostgreSQL HA tools (e.g., Patroni, pgBouncer, Pgpool-II).
• Core Competencies: Strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities; excellent verbal and written communication skills; proven experience managing mission-critical production environments within regulated industries.
Preferred Attributes
• Industry certifications such as AWS Certified Database - Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate/Professional), or professional PostgreSQL certifications.
• Experience integrating database environments with DevOps workflows and CI/CD deployment pipelines.
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes and containerized database architectures.
