Job description

Power Generation Sales Representative
Sell Caterpillar Generators, Standby Power & Prime Power Systems

N C Power Systems | Wenatchee, WA
When critical infrastructure and business operations require reliable power, the right generator system matters.
N C Power Systems is looking for a Power Generation Sales Representative based in Central Washington. This is a technical, consultative sales role focused on helping customers identify, configure, quote, and purchase Caterpillar standby and prime power solutions, including large-capacity generators and related emergency power equipment.
This is not electrical service sales. This is not selling electricity. This is not a traditional transactional sales role.
This is a role for someone who enjoys building relationships, understanding customer needs, visiting job sites, reviewing specifications, coordinating with technical teams, and developing power generation solutions that help customers keep their operations running.
About the opportunity
In this role, you will sell emergency and prime power solutions to end users, electrical contractors, and organizations that depend on reliable power.
You will spend time in the field meeting with customers, visiting job sites, understanding project requirements, and identifying how N C Power Systems can support the customer's power generation needs. You will also work closely with vendors, subcontractors, and internal team members to develop accurate, complete, and competitive proposals.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the combination of:
  • Technical solution selling
  • Relationship building
  • Field visits and customer interaction
  • Project specifications and quoting
  • Contractor and end-user relationships
  • Critical infrastructure and backup power systems
  • Independent sales activity with strong internal technical support

What You'll Be Selling
You will focus on power generation solutions, including:
  • Caterpillar generators
  • Standby emergency power systems
  • Prime power solutions
  • Transfer switches
  • Paralleling switchgear
  • Supporting emergency power equipment
  • Related third-party components, labor, logistics, delivery, and commissioning support

What You'll Be Doing
Build Relationships with Customers and Contractors
  • Make frequent in-person sales calls
  • Develop and grow relationships with end users and electrical contractors
  • Prospect for new accounts and new project opportunities
  • Stay responsive and proactive throughout the sales process
  • Follow up consistently after quotes and proposals
  • Use CRM tools to maintain account, project, and opportunity information

Understand Customer Needs and Job Site Requirements
  • Travel to customer locations and job sites throughout the territory
  • Ask questions to understand the customer's power needs
  • Identify whether the need is standby, emergency, prime, or project-specific power
  • Coordinate with internal experts to determine the right solution
  • Help customers understand available Caterpillar power generation options

Develop Power Generation Proposals
  • Configure and quote custom emergency and prime power solutions
  • Include Caterpillar products, third-party components, labor, logistics, delivery, and commissioning requirements in proposals
  • Review vendor and subcontractor quotes for accuracy and completeness
  • Use Customer Solutions Quoter and related tools to develop customer proposals
  • Apply value engineering approaches when appropriate to meet or exceed project specifications

Work with Plans, Specifications, and Active Projects
  • Research plan rooms for active projects involving generators and standby power
  • Review site plans, electrical drawings, and project specifications
  • Identify projects involving generators, transfer switches, and paralleling switchgear
  • Develop bidder lists to ensure interested contractors receive proposals
  • Coordinate with internal engineering and service teams to support the customer solution

Continuous Training the Industry
  • Build your knowledge of Caterpillar power generation products
  • Learn competitor products and market trends
  • Attend trade shows, conferences, customer events, and factory training
  • Stay current on product offerings and applicable code requirements
  • Continue developing technical knowledge in power generation systems

What Success Looks Like
You will be successful in this role if you:
  • Enjoy consultative, technical sales
  • Like getting out in the field and meeting customers face-to-face
  • Can build trust with contractors, owners, engineers, and internal teams
  • Are curious enough to learn power generation systems and customer applications
  • Can read and interpret project information, specifications, and technical documents
  • Are organized and disciplined with follow-up
  • Communicate clearly and professionally
  • Have a sense of urgency and responsiveness
  • Can coordinate details across customers, vendors, engineering, service, and project teams
  • Are motivated by both relationship building and closing business
  • Want to sell something tangible, important, and mission-critical

What Makes This Role Different
This is a sales role, but it is not just about making calls and closing deals.
You are helping customers solve real power reliability problems. These may involve critical facilities, remote operations, emergency backup needs, construction projects, or large equipment applications where downtime is costly and reliability matters.
