Summary
This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Position for a AIRCRAFT ORDNANCE SYSTEMS MECHANIC, Position Description Number D0115000 and is a part of the 169 MXS, South Carolina Air National Guard.

Duties
Help
This position is located in the Egress Systems Shop of the Aerospace Systems Section, Field Maintenance Branch, Aircraft Maintenance Division. The primary purpose of this position is to perform on and off equipment maintenance on aircraft egress systems, such as aircraft ejection seats, extraction and escape systems, egress components of jettison canopies, explosive components of escape hatches and doors, and egress trainers.
1. Troubleshoots, installs, removes, repairs. modifies, adjusts, inspects, and tests such components as regulators, flow indicators, actuator motors, thruster and positioning mechanisms, seat actuators, catapult guide rails, ejection seats, rocket packs, and canopies, etc. Inspects for safety, serviceability, and maintainability of systems prior to installation, removal, repair, or adjustments of components and insures proper installation and positioning of safety pins. initiators, simulators, and clearing mechanisms. Visually inspects ballistic lines, tubes, hoses, and linkage for damage, deterioriation, restrictions, and security of connections and mountings, and performs corrective maintenance as required. Stores egress explosives IAW AFOSH standards.
2. Inspects pressurization system air pressure gauges for sufficient pressure and bottles and regulators for general condition and serviceabilitv. Checks canopy and capsule structure and associated seals, latches, and locks for damage and security. Installs and maintains Jet Assistance Take Off (JATO) systems when applicable. Isolates the malfunction and takes necessary corrective action. Positions, repairs, and adjusts required aerospace ground equipment, such as rail extensions, hoists, slings. dollies, and trailers used in performing maintenance tasks.
3. Performs installation, modification, and repair of aircraft egress systems. Solves unusual installation and maintenance problems by studying layout drawings, schematic and wiring diagrams, applicable technical publications, and analyzing construction and operating characteristics of egress systems. Selects proper maintenance and repair procedures and corrects the malfunction and/or defective equipment. Diagnoses recurring malfunctions and recommends corrective action by initiation of Quality Deficiency Reports, proposed modifications, or other appropriate action. Performs Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTO'S) related to egress systems.
4. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as ORI, IC and UE inspections, mobility, and command support exercises. Mav be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions 1oadinE and handling. heavy equipment operator, maintenance of facilities and equivrrent or serves as a member of a teem to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This is an T32 excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

Qualifications
THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION OPEN TO AREAS OF CONSIDERATION (AOC) 1 & 2 ONLY WITH PRIORITY GIVEN TO AREA 1.
AOC DEFINITIONS:
Area 1: Current permanent employees of the South Carolina Air National Guard. (Note-Temporary and Indefinite employees do not meet permanent tenure requirements and will not qualify for this AOC)
Area 2: Current members of the South Carolina Air National Guard.
Area 3: Any individual eligible for membership in the South Carolina Air National Guard.
Min/Max Military Grades: A1C/E-3, SrA/E-4, SSgt/E-5
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the applicant's ability to repair malfunctions of ordnance equipment and components. Ability to use sketches, electrical diagrams, technical specifications and engineering drawings. Experience which demonstrates skill in the use of test equipment to make electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic checks.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training in planning and layout of repair sequence and ability to complete modification, repair and installation of ordnance systems. Experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting malfunctions and determining remedy where complex relationships exist. Experience in hand tools and a limited number of measuring equipment. Experience in the use of a variety of test equipment. Experience in interpreting technical directions, blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams and manufacturer's specifications.
MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Military skill set is determined by AFSC requirements. Upon selection, individuals must be assigned to a compatible military AFSC in accordance with statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations and must obtain/maintain all requirements of the AFSC.
